Was The West End pub on your agenda? I went to it 10 years ago. Great session. Don't know what it's like now.

Also missing are the Hebrides Bar and Ensign Ewarts. My personal favourite at the moment is the Castle Bar Cafe; on those rare weekends that I have the time to head to the big smoke the Friday night session in the Castle Bar Cafe is where I'm to be found.

And is the old Rose Microbrewery still in Rose street?

The Rose Street Brewery is still there, but I don't think it's used for live music, just excellent falling down liquid:-)

I went to a pub in Edinburgh and I could not find the loos - they were in a hidden panel that was a bookcase - but then when I got through the "door" I was faced with a choice of two doors, neither of them informed me which was ladies or men. The pub was called Jeckyll and Hyde I think. It was good fun watching others looking for toilets

I only hit the Ceilidh Hoose, or Tron Tavern, I think it was called. Someone told me it was a session, so I packed heat, but it seemed to be a house band playing in the basement. I guess it was just a tourist showcase, but the lady fiddler was possessed, and the sauce was excellent.

Unfortunately the Tron had a change of management and is no longer the folk mecca it used to be, or so I am given to understand. I spent my last evening on Scottish soil there and I too feel nostalgic.

Skipjack, the lady fiddler you saw was almost certainly Jennifer Wrigley, she and her sister Hazel used to host a session there on Mondays.

Pleased to see my pal Cy's two pubs being mentioned. The Tass and THe Castle Bar Cafe. Oh and he used own the The Ceileidh House when it was a folk mecca.

During the song circle at the TASS I thought of our good fortune in finding my grandparents house in Old Cumnock and how the current owners, Billy and Anna had been so nice, inviting us in for cake and tea then whiskey and beer...

and the night we spent with them on the town. In the taxi, on the way back to the hotel, I told them that our day together was the highlight of our trip, and it was..

back in LA, on the freeway I slip in a CD..

Find me sitting at this table
with my friend Finn and my friend John
ol' friend Danny tells a story
of things long gone, long gone
and we may take a glass together
'cause whiskey makes it all so clear
fires our dulled imaginations
and it feels so near, so near

It feels so near
to the howling of the wind
feels so near
to the crashing of the waves
feels so nesr
to the flowers in the field
feels so near.....
