30 Sep 00 - 03:49 PM (#309121) Subject: Under the Scot's Kilt? From: Lyrical Lady Our theatre group is planning a Robbie Burns Supper and I'm gathering appropriate songs and readings. I heard the tail end of a song not long ago about some old maids who came across a drunken, passed out Scot and they tied a blue ribbon around his you know what! All I can remember is the last couple of lines that went something like ... When I lifted up my kilt, I couldn't believe my eyes "I don't know where you've been lad, But, I see you've won first prize"! Does this sound familair to anyone? Any Burns Supper suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks |

There is another, less known, what's-under-the-kilt song called "Angus" by Lolly Foy, sung by a duo with the admirable name Wench Work, whom I once traced as far as ?Michigan where the trail petered out, and also recorded on Celtic Folk Live Vol 4, particularly apropos to a knowledgeable audience since it involves the greatkilt, the one long length wrapped about, rather than the more modern stitched pleated one. |

AZ,CO,WI,&MA were our big shows. I left the act over a dozen years ago. My partner and my successor continued on for a few years after that. A recording of "Angus" is available on CDBaby under the recording "Sailor's Dream" and Wench Work hopes to release a remastered CD of our original audio tape (from 1990) within the next 18 months. That too will be available on CDBaby. By the way, the definitive recording of "The Scotsman" is by Mike Cross, the generally uncredited composer and lyricist of that classic. |

There is a new sports bar in our town, called the "Tilted Kilt." Since the waitresses are all about decolletage and abbreviated skirts - 'tis no wonder.... |
