BS: hesperis is shamelessly bragging!

Hello all!

I have put the first track of my CD of improvised, unstructured piano music on mp3.com!

The album is called Springrise! Impressions of the Equinox.
It was recorded a few years ago. I entered a meditative state and played what my fingers wanted me to play. It is very beautiful music, good for relaxation, falling asleep to, or for listening to while writing poetry.

I put it in the genre "experimental classical" but do you M'catters think I should put it in "new age" instead?

Hope some of you download it and like it. (A very few people don't like it because of the non-structure. Most people love it! I happy!) One local massage artist is using the whole CD to help relax her clients.

I hope to make the whole CD available on mp3.com, week by week. The website is still under construction, but you can find the first track, Chaste Moon, very easily.

It's very much not folk music, but enjoy!

hesperis,
Well done. I am impressed. My sister-in-law is a Reiki healer. I will recommend it to her.

The Hawkster waves his wings in a salute to your music, Hesperis. I thing that "experimental classical" is a good description. It's very relaxing and meditational, so the New Agers should like it. Feel free to brag shamelessly!

I don't have a sound card in my computer, so I can't listen to it. But congratulations, anyway!

When I get a sound card, I'll be sure to check it out. It sounds like it would be lovely.

Don't worry Sooz, my computer is at 48000bps and it still takes 45 minutes to download mp3's.

Wow! I go away from Mudcat for a few hours, and get 7 responses!

Thank you, folks!

Praise - I hope your modem gets fixed, too. There are some other poeple on mp3.com who are just amazing! Daniel Cox does fantastic flamenco guitar. I think he's at www.mp3.com/flamenco. I have over 50 MB of flamenco on my hard drive right now...

Áine - Thanks. I'll keep posting updates to this thread. It is a big step for me, and I am very excited!

SINSULL - Thank you. I am planning to put one track on every week for the next 8 weeks, and then offer it as a Data And Music CD. I have heard that the quality of a DAM CD is slightly lower than a normal CD, but it will have pictures and written meditations in it as well.

Little Hawk - as the only person on this forum who has heard the whole CD, you can definitely judge which genre I should put it in. Thanks. I wonder if I can put it in more than one genre? I still have a lot to learn about mp3.com.

Carol - if you're ever up in Orillia, I'll give you a listen on it.

Wavestar/Jessica - One use I hadn't thought of! Can I quote you?

Mbo - does that mean you won't be able to listen to my stuff? Or just that it'll take for.......e...ver... to ...... down.......load.........

I have written some very cool songs, too, but it'll be a very long time before I'll be doing anything with them. (Well, aside from Song Circle and playing with a few friends.)

Thanks for your support in this.

Hi, everybody!

I've uploaded the second track, and worked on the web page a bit.

If you click on the link that says "Info" when you get to the site, there is a link where mp3.com will notify you of any changes and happenings for that particular artist's page. I tried it out and received an email today letting me know that I'd uploaded another track. It had links for listening and downloading, too.

ATTENTION: There is now a picture of me on the site. (www.mp3.com/springrise)

Here's how I describe the new track, Icicle: "Sunlight glinting off melting ice, grey and white snow, tree branches etched against the sky. My favorite piece on this album."

If anyone wishes to be put on a mailing list, please let me know. hesperis@goplay.com

Thanks to everyone who downloaded the first track already.

(Now I just need to record some of my songs!)

Thank you kindly, sir.

Hey, you know what? I just though of a good use for all the spam I get.
I'll put the originators on my mailing list - unasked! Wouldn't that be a turn-around!!!!! ::evil cackle::

BTW, Mbo, if you ever do a mailing list for your music, I want to be on it, ok?

You look pretty much just as I thought you would! (Except I pictured your hair all fluffy around your head, kind of like a halo or an aura or something - I think because of the way you ornament your screen name in the Mudcat.)

Mbo - you can manually make a list of email addresses in notepad, then copy it to the BCC field in your email.
That way whenever you send out an email, it goes to everyone on the list.
If you BCC, instead of CC, then possible spammers won't know which other addresses you sent it to. You can get software to manage mailing lists, or you can set up an egroup if you have a large volume of news monthly.
When you're just starting a group, it's easier to just do it manually.
Most of the free email things have a field for BCC.

Carol - Yeah, I have really straight hair except in the most humid part of summer. Then it's fluffy. My hair's tied back in that picture. I hate getting hair on my face or in my eyes!

I don't think my music is that much in demand, either. (Well, yet!)

I just like internet stuff, and I'm planning ahead.

I've had so many requests for a tape or CD of my songs, that I'm going to need a way to notify people when I actually get it done.

Well, this has got me interested...I think I'll start one! My new tape is ready, but I haven't started making copies yet. It'd be nice to have a place to let people know about it, and information about the songs, etc. Big wheels are turning...

Great, Mbo!

And you can always build a website...

I recommend Goplay if you don't want to pay for a big site of your own. You get email and you can build a website, "free". (:P) Just don't use their 'site builder' tool, it'll look second-rate. You don't even have to make a website, it'll reserve that name for you if you use the email features.

I'm working on my site. It's nowhere near done, partly because I'm working on someone else's site right now, too.

So, how much is your tape?

Well, at the encouragement of some certain 'Catters, I'm going to put like 10 copies in the Mudcat Auction. They go to the top 10 bidders. All proceeds go to Max.

Which piece?

Yeah, it can be dissonant. But it's sort of a flowing kind of dissonant...

It's completely unstructured. My songs usually have a harmonic structure to them, though. God, I need to record some stuff!!! Maybe in November I can set some tracks down...

Oh, and would you set a minimum Mudcat donation for your tape and reserve me one? ('Cause I think I'd be out of the bidding pretty early on...)

Third piece uploaded and available.

'Brigantia', the 1st of February, Festival of Brighid, first hidden stirrings of Spring...

Love the tape, Matt! Thanks!

I'm doing some more stuff for my website, too, but it's not up yet.

I went to the site to see what the music sounded like, but apparently I can't hear a mere sample without supplying my name, e-mail, address, etc. Why is that? I am buying something without actually realizing it, or what?

leeneia, you don't have to give them any info. Just type in a bogus email address (I always put some generic AOL address, like rsmith@aol.com). That's it. Then you can listen:)

All the pieces for the Springrise! CD are up now, and one of my compositions.

Cicada reminds me of summers spent laying up in a tree, avoiding the heat, while the cicadas rasped for their mates. It is better listened to as a downloaded or hifi, though, as the 24 kb lofi version does really weird things to the sound.

www.mp3.com/chagall

I hope to earn enough before the p4p program ends to be able to buy my own DAM CD, so that it can be available soon. Otherwise I'll have to send them a checque, and it'll take a while...

I have enough for the CD now, but need money for the shipping.

Thanks, hope you enjoy!

Wahhh...!!! I still don't have a sound card! My son and I tried to put one in. Here's the catch 22... I can't install Windows 98 until I install a new hard drive. I can't install a new hard drive without Windows 98. And I can't get my computer to recognise any new hardware until I have a new hard drive and Windows 98. Bugger.

Getting better and better...

Kwan Yin is up. It is very Asian composition, with koto and shakuhachi, though a little too short. I will be doing a remix of it soon, I think.

And my DAM CD of Springrise is now available at $7.99 plus shipping, too. I just hope the artwork turns out ok. It always looks better on the screen...

As for the review, I just had to put the whole thing up ion the "info" page. Couldn't resist it, it was too funny. As for why flattop said that particular part of it, well, I had a cold during that concert, and flattop has a fetish about nose-blowing. (You really didn't want to know that, did you?)

A nose-blowing fetish. You got to be kidding. Why don't you slander me and drag my name through the mud, hessy?

The truth is, SINSULL, the girl refuses to blow her nose properly. I was simply concerned about her health.

Now can I go back to my music studies? I haven't even started reading G-Strings for dummies.

Hi hesperis.

I did PM her, on the same day or the day after she posted. Would you ask her if she got my PM?

One time I found a PM in my archives that had never appeared on my personal pages home page. So she may have it and not know it.
