How do I thank a 'Catter

Being a new member of Mudcat, and being somewhat severely dumb regarding operating a computer, I often do not know the proper way to handle various things. One thing that I have wished to do many times is to thank a 'Catter for the info that I had sought. I realize posting a "Thank you" is not proper since the thank you is for an individual. So what do I do? Or shall we just assume that we have been thanked by those whom we help?>khandu

At the top of the screen is a small window called Quick Links. Scroll within it until you find Send A Personal Message. I am sending you one just so you will know what the other person will receive.

You can also click on Personal Page on the top menu bar; then when you get there, scroll down to the bottom and choose Send A Message.

To really thank a 'Catter...just pass it on.

First, its also acceptable to thank someone in a thread. I asked for help/lyrics....you supply the answer...I say thanks. Frankly, its aggravating to see a group of catters or even one, bust their chops to help someone out and then never see a response in the thread. A PM is an excellent idea, but I feel better about someone when I know they sent one...In other words, you can say in the thread, "Thanks Allan for the PM info" and then perhaps you have something personal you want to relate, send the PM.

A thanks in the thread is good to receive, and good to see - and often there's going to be a supplementary question arising from the information, because every answer throws up more questions. For example if you've got the words you asked for, where for they come from, what do they mean, do they relate to some other sonmg etc.

That's what makes this so different from just asking a clever search engine - questions here can turn into shared explorations and discussions.

Yeah, McGrath, and here, every Mudcatter is a search engine of some sort, so the answers are myriad! Another great thing about this place.

Thanks to all of you that have responded. However, Amergin, I have not yet appreciated a response THAT much.

I have much to learn yet, and the 'cats are great teachers!

Don't talk to strangers. Learn the difference between "good touch" and "bad touch".

I heard a fable one time about Jesus(substitute your favorite deity here) healing a leper clony and the first 5 or 6 said thanks you whole-heartedly and going on to rejoin society, but the next one staying to help clean up. And the moral was that Thankfulness goes backwards and Gratitude goes foward.
Whomever helped you was saying thanks for the last time somebody here helped them. Saying thanks is wonderful and one always should, but being of service the next time around is the real thanks.

I think the best place to post a message of thanks is in the thread where the information was first requested. It gives a feeling of completion to a thread, telling everybody that requested information was received and that it was satisfactory - kind of a signal that people can now stop looking. This seems to be what usually happens, but then there are other times when somebody requests information and people bend over backwards to get it - and we never hear a word from the original requester.
Sometimes, I will e-mail information to a requester, and I'll usually get thanks back by way of e-mail. Maybe should I go back to the thread and post a message to say the information has been received and appreciated?

Joe, you feel as I do....it kinda' completes the thread, or at least on the issue involved although some of them go on to other aspects of the song. To answer your question, personally, I'd like to see a short message saying they got the stuff and they said thanks. Just that completion thing, ya' know?
