BS: One year on the Mudcat

16 Oct 00 - 06:29 AM (#319654)
Subject: One year on the Mudcat
From: McGrath of Harlow

I've just checked, and I find that today, 16th October, it is exactly one year since the first time I posted in the Mudcat. So this is just to say thank you to Max and Joe and Dick and everyone here. Including especially the ones I've hjad disagreements with.

I think this makes post number 2907. Am I really that garrulous - I could have written War and Peace with that many words.

But checking my record, at least the balance between music-related and other stuff seems fair enough.

The Blue Clicky Thing,
the Blue Clicky Thing,
it can take you away like a magical ring,
and it holds us together like brown paper and string
the Mudcat Cafe and the Blue Clicky Thing.

That's from a love song I wrote to the Mudcat soon after I found it -and here's a link to the words (and a sound file of it)

It seems a lot longer than a year though. Time passes differently here on the Mudcat.

Your tenure seems a lot longer than a year to one who came about 4 months later--LOL!! I assumed you'd always been here, because you were already so well known here! Yer a young pup like me! Or else I am an old grey hair at being here like you! LOL!

I think often of the green heart of Harlow. I may even get your tape made this week!

Hi Kevin, I too have been here just about a year, and I think this covers the sentiment (Leaving aside the gay part)
" You see we brave sailors so cheerful and gay
Since we've joined the Mudcat to drive sorrows away
Sorrows away (3x) <. Since we've joined the Mudcat to drive sorrows away

Happy anniversary, Kevin. No wonder the last year has been so special around here. ;-) And you're right, time passes differently here on the 'Cat. I feel that I've known you a lot longer than just a few months (when you look at the big picture). To me, you are an old friend, and one certainly to be counted among the golden.

Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?
I think I first posted a tentative query in Dec '98 and then started t become compulsive a few months later!
Pressure of work slowing me down now (good thing)

Geezuz, MoH ... And here I thought you'd been on at least 4 or 5 years!!!!

Glad you're here ...

Disagreements, we've certainly had ours, but you play fair and I appreciate that.

Mac, I too am glad you are here. Your songs are often wonderful and you can always be counted upon to provide several equally compelling points of view which show your great intelligence and depth of understanding on many issues.

Outside of that, you're kind of a pain in the ass.

Time sure does pass differently here! It's been an hour and a half since I sat down at the computer for a "quick look". Happy Anniversary!

Congratulations (and to Kendall, too) on surviving this looney bin for a year! As well as for posting some good thought-provoking stuff and silliness too.

Everytime I think I'm gonna give up and stay away, a thread like this comes along and I reconsider.

Well McGrath (and all you other folks), you know it seems that you've a friend for a lot longer than a year.

I just love 'The Blue Clicky Thing', it's a great song.

Here's to many more years to come.

Bert.

Happy Anniversary!

I've only been here a few months myself - it feels longer though - not sure why.

Cheers,

I thought 'Spaw was getting soft foer a moment there. No way!

Thanks for the friendly words, everyone there.

I've been trying to work out why it is that the Mudcat has this speeded up metabolism, so that a year feels more like four or five, and people talk about stuff that happened 18 months ago as if it was from some past era, golden or otherwise. People have referred to it as a sort of soap opera, and that is one thing it shares with soap operas, the speed with which some plot line suddenly erupts.

And set against that, because of the archived threads, you get the slow interrupted plots, where a song search goes on over years, getting nowhere and then getting to unexpected treasures.

I only hope that nothing happens that gets in the way of the Mudcat developing - I want to see what happens to it over a few decades. Which in Mudcat time will be a few centuries.

Happy Anniversary, McGrath! And my best wishes for 100 years more in the (optical? virtual? tactile?) Mudcat of the XXI century. I envy you, Spaw has never said that I'm a pain in the ass too.

Un abrazo - Andrés
