I need a hug

17 Oct 00 - 06:10 PM (#321224)
Subject: I need a hug
From: Hollowfox

It's dismal weather outside, I've had to work with the Clerk from Hell for five of the past six work days, I had to go get my glasses adjusted (third time) before work, and after work (7:00PM)I have an appointment with my lawyer to (maybe finally) sign the marriage separation papers. A girlfriend who's into astrology told me that, Mercury being retrograde, it's a bad time to sign legal documents for maybe three weeks (I will anyway, if they're ready). The house is a wreck, I can't find several important papers. I have until December 1 to make casettes of about 50 records as part of the separation agreement, and I need a turntable that plays 78 RPM for some of them. My teenage kids aren't into hugging (or housecleaning) at the moment. I feel as if it weren't for the cats, I wouldn't have affectionate physical contact with any living thing. I Know things will get better, but right now, I'd really like a hug.

If you were born when Mercury was retrograde, as I was, it has no effect on you in the way people usually ascribe to it.

My cats fill in on many days, too. I have a 78 record player, but it doesn't do you any good here, sorry.....oh, and can you get an extension on the recording deadline?**BG**

Anyway, here's a BIG HUG with many more to follow from the others I am sure!

Deep breath, now blow it out slowly..that's it,

Deep Peace to you,

kat

An e-hug I can manage, but for everything else, well, a massage can actually help that "nobody wants to touch me" feeling. You might be able to find a used turntable at a Goodwill type store (but buy a new needle!). If not, talk to a stereo place. Any turntable that can play 33 and 45 can be adapted to 78 by a knowledgeable technician.

And astrology is ...er... based on an inaccurate premise. Whatever your sun sign supposedly is, it ain't, so relax.

Hope things get better soon!

"This too will pass" is a good motto, and Spaw has been applying it liberally for years! :-D

How about a hug from the wings of the hawk? These are spirit wings, and they brush gently around you with plenty of love and caring...for both Hollowfox and Zebedee... ( ( ( whooshhh... ) ) )

Foxy,
Here's a hug. Now get your cat to walk on your back or massage your shoulders. Any chance of getting a local kid with turntables to do the recording job for you? My son had it down to a science at one point. Two turntables, fade in, fade out, next. Ask your children who DJs local parties. You may be able to negotiate a deal and save yourself hours of teeth grinding.
Smile. The worst of it is over. And screw Mercury. He looked like a fool in that hat anyway.

I dont hug strangers, but, I met you at Old Songs, so, that qualifies as an introduction, right? It probably wont do any good, but, I've been there with two women. (at different times) I was devastated by the second one, and convinced that my life was over. WRONG! every time a door closes, another opens. You must believe that. Anyway, I dont want to go on and on, so, here is a warm heartfelt squeeze for you. I only wish I could deliver it in person.

The Hug Song
(Fred Small)

CHORUS:
I want a hug when we say hello
I want a hug when it's time to go
I want a hug 'cause I want you to konw
I'm awfully fond of you.
I want a hug--what a wonderful feeling
I want a hug--to feel you squeezing
I want a hug--it certainly seems like
The natural thing to do!

When I was a little bitty baby child, my momma used to hold me tight
My daddy used to come and pick me up when I got scared at night
The years have passed, I've grown so fast, and mostly I feel strong
But timid or bold, I'm never too old to sing this cozy song.

CHORUS

Now some folks don't like hugging--they think they're too tough
I bet they'd be a whole lot friendlier if they were just hugged enough
When you hug the ones who love you, an amazing thing you learn
When you give a hug, you just can't help but get one in return!

CHORUS

Sometimes grownups are grouchy and they put the blame on you
Sometimes you make just a little mistake though you did the best you could do
Sometimes love is everywhere and it's a beautiful day
And every time is the perfect time to open your arms and say:

CHORUS

Somebody reminded me that this is the children's version of this song. Murray posted the adult version here (click).

Mercury retrograde does NOT EFFECT anything that was started BEFORE the time of going retro. Mercury retrograde only effects things started within the period it spans, usually about 3-4 weeks. It is a time when our thinking can be muddled. Just as the moon affects the pull of the tides, Mercury effects the thought process. You were well into this 'experience' before it began so give it no thought, other than to be very sure that you read and understand all that you are to sign. For now, do not live in the sorrow of the situation, think to the future and all that is waiting for you to come and discover. I have walked many miles in your shoes, as many of us here have, and know what we speak of. Prayer is the ultimate answer,-- "Let Go and Let GOD". Fill your life with love and music. As for the hugs, I send all who need them as many as you would be pleased to have. My prayers are with you, and the others. God bless

Some of the things that tend to help me are renting sad movies to get the tears out in a socially acceptable way, baking cookies and eating a few with a *cold* glass of milk, taking a long, hot, bath, and knowing above all else that we are not alone, even when we are lonely. So here's a great big hug from warm and sunny Southern California!

Wow! You've all given me exactly what I needed: hugs, blessings, advice...so much that I had to take notes before answering your posts. Zebedee, KimC, Hesperis, I'll trade ya, hug for hug. 'Spaw..New Pholadelphia?? That's twice as far for you to drive than me! We really should meet some day, though. We could turn our respective flocks of kids on each other and those of us who are no longer carded to get into a bar can have a good visit. BTW, are you related to Tim Wallace, the Cleveland area songwriter? You two resemble each other, both in looks and humor. (this is a compliment to you both.) Rabbitrunning et al, not to worry, I don't put much faith in astrology (interesting coincidences sometimes, though). It was just the last thing I needed to hear at this time. MaxTone, rest assured, my kids aren't pawns for either parent, nor for the lawyers, and I'm reading everything very carefully. Drives my soon-to-be-ex nuts. He's the one in a hurry, but I cut my teeth on legal circumlocution helping negotiate my union's contract a few years ago. And the turntable's needed in Ohio, about equidistant from Pittsburgh and Cleveland. I have a few ideas on that problem's solution, though. Harpgirl, thanks for clearing up the mixup between you and Kendall. Only on the 'Cat would anybody mistake one of you for the other *g*. I hope all goes well with the child support. My prayers are with you. Guest,Still, that's exactly why I posted here; these postings helped me to replenish my life with much-needed love and music. Aine, that's my usual style, but I was a bit overwhelmed yesterday. The sandwich was delicious; thanks for the menu suggestion. Aine & Naenamson, did you ever hear the story of the magician who made it possible for a whole town to hang out their problems like laundry so that everybody could swap their huge problems for smaller, more manageable ones? In the end, everyone chose to take their original troubles back. Naemanson, I'd answer (pm) Now folks, here's an update. The glasses got adjusted, I'm not working with the Clerk from Hell today (she's the biggest problem right now), my husband says the 78's can wait, I don't mind recording the others (that way I keep the original records), his lawyer made a goofy proposal that delayed signing anything, and the kids all hugged me when I got home. Whew, its a good thing my old English teacher can't see that last run-on sentance - it's a beaut! I can deal with the house, the papers are bound to turn up them, and you folks all have my thanks and gratitude for deflecting that massive batch of depression that was barreling down on me yesterday. My thanks to you all!

Well, Hollowfox, as a veteran of a few years' living solo, I'll tell you never, ever to underestimate the value of a good massage. Whenever I have an overwhelming need for physical contact -- which happens, since I make my living sitting in front of a computer for hours and hours and hours and can go for days, literally, without encountering another actual, physical human except the UPS guy who's a little short for me and anyway married -- I just find a good massage therapist (we are not talking about "massage" as in parlor) and just go flop on his or her table for an hour or so.

As I told my mother the last time she asked, I would not have re-married if I'd discovered massage in time. It feeds the skin hunger without the whittling down of your soul that unhappy relationships require.

Oh, and here's a big ol' Rocky Mountain hug to you as well. Try to take the gallstones approach to all this stuff: This will surely pass.
