CLOSE IT DOWN

Fifteen long years on the strip mill at Ravenscraig,
Twenty-five more in the bowels of the earth,
Digging for fuel to fire the bosses,
Who turn round and tell us that we've no more worth.

CHORUS: Close it down, shut it, not enough profit.
Padlock the gates, aye, and send the men home.
No longer viable, we've become liable
For the working class people, whose work is all gone.

Long days in the shipyard, quietly waiting,
Redundancy notice and holiday pay,
Privatised power for fortunate people
With shares in the market place ready to trade.

Chorus

Fat cats are sharing the cream of the booty.
People lie shivering in boxes of card.
No jobs today, come back tomorrow.
We'll tell you the same thing. It isn't so hard.

Chorus

Lay off the workers, the fathers, the sons,
People who'd spent their lives under the ground
Earning a wage for their family to keep
All their heads above water till the next work is found.

Chorus

Hope this works for you, Mickey. I've sung this a lot in clubs here in Scotland, it goes down well. Best of luck to you.

Ian, Edinburgh.

Think the chorus is 'not enough profit', but otherwise that all looks correct. Haven't sung it for a few years now.
