I'm looking for lyrics to any of Keith Marsden Songs.. Prospect Providence, The Funeral Song etc... as sung by the UK folk group Cockersadale.

Anything gratefully received...

What you need to do, my son, is get in touch with Graham Pirt or Bill Sables and acquire a copy of "picking sooty blackberries" that has all the Keith Marsden songs in it. There is also a double CD of Cockersdale of the same title, if you like I can try and pass your e-mail to them and get them in touch with you...just post a yes here and I will give it a go...

Or you can buy it from Camsco. Probably save a few bucks, too.

I've got a paperback copy of 'Picking Sooty Blackberries' that I was thinking of putting on Ebay.

I don't know if it's worth 10p or £10.00 and I can't find any record of one that has been sold previously and I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what reserve price I ought to put on it?

Cheers
K/van

It is in great demand!

Difficult to put reserve price it is worth at least £20 I reckon but could fetch much more in the right place!

I have two copies (one signed by Val, Graham & John) and was asked if I would part with one to a "friend" who offered to cover the cost of my posting it.

I did a check at that time (about 18 months ago) and found them changing hands at £75 +.

I still have two copies!

There was also a double CD set of all Marsden's songs recorded at a Whitby Folk Week. I expect it's rare as hen's teeth.

I was very lucky and got a copy from John O,Hagan, but it was his last.
I was very fortunate, a gift from him after he saw me spend £20.00 on raffle tickets to try to win a copy at the Behive in Harthill. All I got at the time was the second prize of a bottle of wine. He showed pity.
I did, however, have a great night there listening to Cockersdale sing. Thanks again John, Graham and Val for that great experience.
I certainly would have given many times the amount of £20 you quoted Ray and would put a much higher price on it. I certainly value my copy and would not part with my copy for any amount.
Guest,I am sure if you put some of the names of his songs in the search engine on this site you will stand a good chance of obtaining some of the lyrics.

Thank you, Dennis. He was one heckuva songwriter.

Camsco have, I believe, three of Cockersdales CDs for sale, but not Picking Sooty Blackberries a great shame, however, they are all worth buying. The discussions by Val, John and Graham about Keiths life on the PSB discs are certainly worth more than the cost of the CD as well as obviously the great songs. I went on a similar quest to yours a few years ago (previous threads) and have very fortunatly almost completed my wish list thanks to some old and some new good friends. I wish you luck.

There's an auction of Picking Sooty Blackberries on eBay for five days now so it probably isn't Kampervan's copy. The auction started with £19.99 and is at £34.00 now.

I won't bid on an auction with a reserve price though. I feel that an honest seller has no need to conceal what he wants for his goods.

Hi Reinhard, no, that's not my copy. I've been checking out Ebay on and off for months now and never found a copy.
Typical that on the day I ask the question someone else puts one up for sale.
I haven't decided whether to sell or not yet, I've got a complete set of CD's too, including the live double 'Picking Sooty blackberries. Bought it after seeing them all at their last appearance at Whitby.

Lots of memories, but need a bit of money right now! Difficult decision.

Cheers
