21 Nov 00 - 10:50 AM (#344520) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Are u in the Top 40 of the Lordy, Lo From: mousethief My wife's ex-husband used to be a DJ. He worked at a country station, and the songs to play were recorded by the program manager on cartridges ("carts" in radiobizspeak), which were stacked on a rolling tray for him to play. His job was to play a cart, make announcements or play commercials, then take the next cart off the tray and shove it in. On the day that Pope John Paul I died, he got the announcement off the wire, and read it, and then stuck in the next cart. Unfortunately, it was "Drop Kick Me, Jesus, Through the Goalposts of Life." Needless to say the phones lit up immediately with people complaining about the tasteless juxtaposition and he nearly lost his job. For some reason he shortly thereafter quit radio and went to law school, and is now a successful prosecuting attorney in Nashville, but that's another story!

I've got a record of a country song called "there stands the glass" which is pretty sickening, but for sheer self-pity and self-indulgence you can't beat "The Little Things" sung by Willie Nelson. Praise the Lord, nothing to do with folk music! |
