Bob, the second part of your request.
Comin' Down In The Rain
(Buddy Mondlock)
CAPO ON 2ND FRET
VERSE 1

Flipped into the wind like the ashes of her cigarette
He got scattered thrown on the breeze as he tried to forget
He lost all his heat and his heart never will be the same
He got lighter than air but he'll only come down in the rain

Strung out and hung out to dry laughin' under the line
It's not such a dignified place but he really don't mind
He says with his feet on the ground he'd have nothin' to say
Claims he likes it up there and he'll only come down in the rain

CHORUS
Comin' down in the rain
Washin' outta the sky
Loaded down with the pain
There just ain't no way to fly
You can read him as clear as the wall where he once wrote his name
It was right next to hers but it'll only come down in the rain

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK
Burnin' himself out on a limb like a leaf in the fall
He blazed for awhile now he's feelin' all dried up and small
The colours all gone disappeared, near as quick as it came
He says he can't stay up but, he'll only come down in the rain

CHORUS +
You can read him as clear as the wall where he once wrote his name
It was right next to hers but he'll only come down in the rain

Hope this was what you were after

Cheers

Gary

Hey!

ARen't you guys supposed to be "folkies?" I'm a 23 year old girl here- just trying to find the chords to "comin down in the rain"- written by buddy mondlock, recently sung by Nanci Griffith on her current album "Other rooms- other voices!" It's a beautiful, touching song- if anyone can help me out, I'd be much obliged!

Sorry, I tried to find, but it seems no one has posted them online....

BTW, Guest, it's best to have patience...others are certainly looking in their books and such...they just may not have found them either.

It's ok...I did find the lyrics though, but no chords...maybe some one around here has them.

COMIN' DOWN IN THE RAIN

Flipped into the wind
Like the ashes of her cigarette
He got scattered thrown on the breeze
As he tried to forget
He lost all his heat
And his heart never will be the same
He got lighter than air
But he'll only come down in the rain

Strung out and hung out to dry
Laughin' under the line
It's not such a dignified place
But he really don't mind
He says with his feet on the ground
He'd have nothin' to say
Claims he likes it up there
And he'll only come down in the rain

(chorus)
Comin' down in the rain
Washin' outta the sky
Loaded down with the pain
There just ain't no way to fly
You can read him as clear
As the wall where he once wrote his name
It was right next to hers
But it'll only come down in the rain

Burnin' himself out on a limb
Like a leaf in the fall
He blazed for awhile
Now he's feelin' all dried up and small
The colours all gone
Disappeared, near as quick as it came
He says he can't stay up
But, he'll only come down in the rain

(repeat chorus)

You can read him as clear as the wall
Where he once wrote his name
It was right next to hers
But he'll only come down in the rain

I hope this helps you out a little at least.

Thanks! I do know the words to this song- but I appreciate your posting them up for me.

Guess the chords are utterly impossible to find- I wanted to play this song on the guitar, but I'm a beginner- not good enuf yet to figure it out on my own. Heck!

Guess it's back to yer basic Bob dylan and "Go tell Aunt Rhody!"

Well, I suppose I'm posting this about 9 years too late, but on Nanci Griffith's great cover of this song, on her "Other Voices, Other Rooms" CD, they are doing this with a capo on fourth fret, in G. The walk downs are the standard C running down through Am (in this case it's that wierd C chord (sus something?)which is the Am with the third string open, then to D. There's the walkdown from G to the Em as well. The rest is pretty straighforward. It's a great tune!!!

There's a youtube video of Buddy playing the song in a 'round' w/Nancy Grffith and other's. The chords are clearly discernable in the video.

I think there might be a few lyrics corrections needed here -- I think Nanci Griffith didn't get all the original words right, unfortunately.

In the second verse, I think it's "hung out and strung out to dry, FLAPPIN' under the line" and then "he says with his feet on the ground he'd have nothing to GAIN," so, corrected lyrics:

COMIN' DOWN IN THE RAIN
by Buddy Mondlock

Flipped into the wind like the ashes of her cigarette
He got scattered thrown on the breeze as he tried to forget
He lost all his heat and his heart never will be the same
He got lighter than air but he'll only come down in the rain

Strung out and hung out to dry flappin' under the line
It's not such a dignified place but he really don't mind
He says with his feet on the ground he'd have nothin' to gain
Claims he likes it up there and he'll only come down in the rain

(chorus)
Comin' down in the rain, washin' outta the sky
Loaded down with the pain, there just ain't no way to fly
You can read him as clear as the wall where he once wrote his name
It was right next to hers but it'll only come down in the rain

Burnin' himself out on a limb like a leaf in the fall
He blazed for awhile now he's feelin' all dried up and small
The colours all gone disappeared, near as quick as it came
He says he can't stay up but he'll only come down in the rain

(repeat chorus)

You can read him as clear as the wall where he once wrote his name
It was right next to hers but he'll only come down in the rain

-----------

And here are the chords, in G, without all the walkdowns etc:

verse:
G       C   Am
D       G
G       C   Am
D       G

Chorus:
Em      C
Am      D
G       C   Am
D       G

The bass walkdowns happen when you are moving from C to Am to D at the end of the first line and beginning of the second line in the verse (it happens again the end of the third line, and the end of the second to last line of the chorus). In order you would play:

C   C/B   Am   Am/G D/F#

I'm not sure how to notate it in here so that people can figure out how to make those chords. Any suggestions?

If you check the lyrics on Buddy Mondlock's website, you'll notice the last four lines in the final half-chorus go:

"You can read him as clear as the wall
Where he once wrote his name
It was inside a heart
That'll only come down in the rain"
