Well that ol' wanker Bill has beaten me to it as I was going to start one this AM.

So Rick, on this day which caused your mother great pain and has caused many others great pain ever since, I have but one word for you:

.......and thanks for the friendship, smiles, and warmth, you bring to me and the other folks in this weird place. And my additional thanks for giving PT a life.

Sung to Rick Fieldings tune of 'This One's The Dreamer off the birthday boy's latest CD.

This one's the 54th birthday
This one's wondering does age really matter
This ones got years to travel
Long way from sixty
Who listens to Quentin Crisp
Sometimes to the baseball score
In the backyard, there is Duckboots
In her garden

This one's got a gorgeous voice
Kind of like the way Gorden Lightfoot sings
Strumming on Woody with a banjo chorus
Long time true friend
Who won't join the Morris Dancers
To celebrate his birthday with cake & laughter
Love 'The Man', sing to praise
Can you feel it?

Chorus

The wider your waistline
We'll still love you
The longer you take to walk
We'll walk in stride
The further off your hearing
We'll be there to holler to you
Now one thing is true
Dear Richard, The Mudcatters love you

Thanks for noticing that.

Out making music with the Patons on your b-day, huh? Nice way to spend it, except for Duckboots not being there, but, as Spaw hinted, she's got a BIG surprise for you when you do get home.**BG**

LilNeo: great song!! LOL!!

Now let's see what my crystal ball says for you: You will have stars up above, terra firma under, friends by your side, "bloomin' heather" in your heart, songs unending pouring forth, yup, sounds like another stellar year for you, darlin'!

Rick, here is an excerpt from Ferlinghetti that seems to me to sum up performers birthdays.

Constantly risking absurdity and death whenever he performs above the heads of his audience the poet (folksinger) like an acrobat climbs on rime to a high wire of his own making and balancing on eyebeams above a sea of faces paces his way to the other side of the day performing entrachats and sleight-of-foot tricks and other high theatrics and all without mistaking any thing for what it may not be For he's the super realist who must perforce perceive taut truth

(happy birthday, anyway, chance)

Happy Birthday Rick. Just to let you know that in Orillia it is a holiday. My kids are out of school today, but plans for the parade fell through when most local musicians refused to play their instruments outside in the cold. I'll raise a beer to you tonight.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A FELLA WHO HAS BECOME A DEAR FRIEND TO ME AND MY FAMILY.

Many happy returns. (Round about that number of birthdays I lost count. These days I just give the year I was born when people ask me, and let them do the sums.)

Looks like a good song from Neo - only thing for Rick is, he probably won't feel he can sing it himself. Which is frustrating for a good singer with a good song.

Hell no Harp...............we are thoroughly modern men of the New Millenium.......Fielding, Patterson, Swan, and Lane, Layabouts at large welcomes as associates those whom, regardless of gender or race or creed or color, exhibit the very finest aspects of the Layabout lifestyle. I would guess that your legendary runs through the woods (or was it swamps) of Florida........ the mental imagery of which caused many of us to lose sleep, or at the least to immediately wake up our significant other and cause them to lose sleep LOL.........would most likely gain you immediate admission to the firm.

And so's youse don't give me a fine load of shite for thread creep...........let me say Happy BDay again to Rick.

Well, folks, I *did* get to wish Rick a Happy Birthday in person. I took him some Ring Dings (snack cakes) & a candle & made him a card on my computer--classy or what?! Although I didn't kiss & hug him for absolutely every Mudcatter worldwide, I made a good attempt. spaw, I remember one of the big smootchers was for you! :) Also, at the end of the concert, Caroline couldn't resist leading a few alternative birthday songs. I think we've embarrassed him enough for this year. The concert was great & it was such a pleasure to see & hear Sandy, Caroline, & Rick!

Well done Beebs, well done!!! And a special snog to Caroline too. Now karen k my dear, if you can suitably embarass the lad...........

And harp......Membership is open and we can take you on as an associate for a trial period where you can prove your unworthiness and lack of any redeeming social value combined with a penchant for doing less than nothing. Completion or not of these pseudo-requirements will grant you full partner lack of status with FPS&L. You will have to buy your own Secret Decoder Ring. It doesn't have to work because we rarely send messages and no one can remember the codes, but they add tackiness....an essential quality in all Layabouts.

Rick, My cookie's gone again. Guess you had it for your birthday! Glad you made it home safely. Was hoping you'd post somewhere so we'd know you made it ok. Leaving after 11pm Sunday night I was a bit concerned. You did, however, miss a great breakfast at the Boulevard Diner in Worcester with Sandy and Caroline and John and Linda.
