Thought for the day - December 3, 2000

Driving about in Wyoming, one is constantly reminded that most care not for any speed limit. It disturbs and frightens me, at times. I've decided to propose a new bumper sticker to my favourite sticker company, Northern Sun Merchandising; tongue in cheek, could be read either way:

Speed...a Limit I Believe In!

Also saw one the other day, on a huge pickup truck, with a guy in the driver's seat:

A wise man once said, "I don't know, go ask a woman!"

Kat,

I like "Speed....A Limit I Believe In."

Tonight driving home from a concert on the Interstate, this jerk pulls behind me with no space to speak of between us. I'm going slightly above the speed limit as are all other drivers. No place for me to move over. So I had only one thing to do. Slow down without braking. Gently easing my speed downward. But I tell you, it was white knuckle time. I'd rather be a little late for whatever than not get there at all.

Right up there with "Drive Now, Talk Later" and "Never Drive Faster Than Your Guardian Angel Can Fly". Good one, kat!

My god-fearing republican father has this one:
"I break for tail-gaters!"

He claims it works; I tend to go with bflat's system. I've been known to slowly ease down to several miles below the speed limit once I get to a passing zone!

One my mother-inlaw used to say

"Better late in this world than early in the next"

Cherish the moments. The last few days have been some of the saddest days of my life. Our granddaughter, who had lived with since she was five years old, was killed in a head on collision last Friday while on her way to meet her boy friend in southern Missiouri.

Just when I thought I was having some impact on her. She had gone a full year without a speeding ticket and the last cd she bought was "Celtic Music of the Highlands". We gave her the car just two days before the accident. Apparently she was all excited and eager to see her boy friend. Somehow Sorcha she must been way ahead of her Angel.

Cap'n Bob, I am so sorry for your sadness,
I spent Yesterday at the funeral of a guy I worked with who was knocked off his bike on his way home from work a couple of weeks ago by a careless driver, We have been deprived of a fine musician, and a repairer of fiddles, a friend, father and husband.
A church with 300+ was a great tribute, and the wake in the pub with music and singing was splendid, but no substitute for the man. I am beginning to wonder if the definitive thing about growing olderis that a black necktie becomes a permanent part of ones wardrobe.
Heres to you Jeff Giddings where ever you are
from Micca feeling a great sadness for all these untimely deaths and for those left to grieve in this, the darkest time of the year.

Much sympathy, Cap't Bob. No words can help at the moment, but your friends here are thinking of you and your family.

And micca, that was a lovely tribute... you made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck...

Oh, Cap'n Bob, words fail me, I only have tears to offer you at the moment. I am so, so very sorry.

Micca, I am glad you've told the others about Jeff. He sounds like such a fine man.
