I AM RELATIVELY NEW TO INTERNET LIFE...I HAVE HEARD OF HUGE PROBLEMS WITH GIVING OUT INFORMATION ABOUT NAMES, ADDRESSES, PHONE NUMBERS, ETC...WHAT ASSURANCES ARE THERE THAT THAT INFORMATION WON'T BE ABUSED..WHAT KINDS OF INFO. CAN BE GIVEN WITHOUT REPERCUSSIONS?..I'D LIKE TO JOIN AND CONTRIBUTE TO THIS INCREDIBLE SITE..BUT HAVE THOSE RESERVATIONS. ANY INPUT?

Gary, There can be many problems with giving out even the smallest amount of info over the net. The information that this site requests of you is very limited and could be obtained by anyone in the general pubic who knows how to use a phonebook. I have been using D.T. for years and the Mud Cat Forum ever since it came on-line. I have never met anyone involved with the site, but I would be the first to recomended them to anyone I knew. They have always been more than helpful and have never asked a thing from me. Name, address, phone no. and screen name ain't much to ask for anyway and I believe them when thay say it is for site use only. Besides there is more knowledge available on this site because of the outstanding people who use it then any other site I have ever found. I think it is worth it. For What It's Worth Trent

Garry - First writing in caps is considered shouting, so. . . relax a bit, o.k.? You are right to be concerned. You need to start off slow and cautious when using any Internet services. If you ave a very "privacy consciousperson, maybe you should consider hanging around the threads a while. They are what is known on other sights as a bulletin board. I guarantee if you read some of the different threads, you will get a feel for the kind of people who hang in Mudcat. In general I find Mudcats to be:

Very intelligent

Well read and with a broad knowledge of music, current events and the world.

funny

definitely fun to talk to either in chat room or on theads

So, read the threads - try "good-bye England's rose", you will get about 2 weeks forback and forth conversation, some about music, some not. Then if you feelready to give it a try, take the plunge. We promise not to show up on your doorstep without calling from the corner first!(Just kidding, we'll call from the rest stopon theInterstate!)

Great thoughts...Thanks..I'll check back for further inputs tomorrow..About the Caps..sorry, I hate the stupid place the Caps lock key is on this keyboard..the only thing about my Mac I don't like.. Also, I have actually been using threads for a while if you check under "Gary" but have had nasty AOL probs in the past and was off the air..I am an extreme eclectic about music, and any topic from Singing Whales to Ragtime is up my Alley..

You bring up a good point, Gary. I hang out at a local bulletin board in Maine (although I'm from California - long story), and I feel I can be quite free with what I say there. This group is almost as friendly than the Maine group (the Mainers fed me 3 lobsters when I visited - all I get is virtual cake here). but even though the people who participate here are very nice, we still are on the World Wide Web. People do search the Web for information submitted by innocent, trusting people like us - so it is best to be at least a bit circumspect. But signing on as a member won't hurt. You can trust Max and Dick and Susan.
