They are all pretty nice words to hear, especially all on the same occasion in that order.

Nothing beats "I Love You." "Good job or well done" is pretty nice to hear.

I don't very often hear "Steve, why don't you play us a tune on your banjo?"

The three little words you would most like to hear from your spouse:

"You were right."

or

"I was wrong."

Mommie worm! This is something Willie sometimes says when feeling exceptionally cuddly. The proper answer is Willie worm! with a great big hug. No idea where that came from, but it's heartwarming, every time.

"I missed you" said by either twin when coming back from visitation with my X2B. I know that he does the Disneyland Dad stuff, all fun and games and no discipline, so it's REALLY nice if they manage to miss me anyway!

Among the nicest things that have ever been said to me were (not in any particular order):

"I think you are probably a lot like your father." (It was said by bbc.)

"I really love that song!" (said by someone who didn't know at the time that I had written it).

"You are more Christian than most Christians I know." (said nearly forty years ago by BarbaraLynn who knows that I am not one).

"I love you" (said by Kathy more than nine years ago and who still hold the key to my heart).

"I am proud to call him my great friend." (said by Bill Sables).

"You play guitar really well!" (said by someone who I thought should know better).

"Allan is a true gent." (WyoWoman)

"I loved reading this. It's like a large goblet of fine wine!" (written by a friend who had never before read one of my stories).

Note: I am going to bookmark this thread so that I can easily return to it and read these when I am feeling down.

I'm a children's librarian, and some of my favorite words to hear are:

"This is just the right book."

"I got an "A" on that report!"

"More stories, PLEEEEEEEEEASE!" (Said by a roomful of pre-kindergartners with their best manners on.)

"I remember you! You're the one who told that story about..."

"Hey! Library lady!" (the best occasion was on the fourth of July watching fireworks five miles away from my branch.)

But I'll admit, my favorites are usually "The library will be closing in five minutes, please bring your books up to the front desk to be checked out."

Come to think of it, on the personal side, I truly love it when one of my sisters or my mom remembers to say "Good night, God bless you," at the end of a phone conversation. (My brother almost always remembers.) My grandmother lived with us for years, and she said that to us every night.

From an online dictionary of bizarre terms:

(from def. and history of "foo")

For, it seems, the word `foo' itself had an immediate prewar history in comic strips and cartoons. The earliest documented uses were in the "Smokey Stover" comic strip popular in the 1930s, which frequently included the word "foo". Bill Holman, the author of the strip, filled it with odd jokes and personal contrivances, including other nonsense phrases such as "Notary Sojac" and "1506 nix nix". According to the Warner Brothers Cartoon Companion Holman claimed to have found the word "foo" on the bottom of a Chinese figurine. This is plausible; Chinese statuettes often have apotropaic inscriptions, and this may have been the Chinese word `fu' (sometimes transliterated `foo'), which can mean "happiness" when spoken with the proper tone (the lion-dog guardians flanking the steps of many Chinese restaurants are properly called "fu dogs"). English speakers' reception of Holman's `foo' nonsense word was undoubtedly influenced by Yiddish `feh' and English `fooey' and `fool'.

Holman's strip featured a firetruck called the Foomobile that rode on two wheels. The comic strip was tremendously popular in the late 1930s, and legend has it that a manufacturer in Indiana even produced an operable version of Holman's Foomobile. According to the Encyclopedia of American Comics, `Foo' fever swept the U.S., finding its way into popular songs and generating over 500 `Foo Clubs.' The fad left `foo' references embedded in popular culture (including a couple of appearances in Warner Brothers cartoons of 1938-39) but with their origins rapidly forgotten.
