BS: Mudcat Family Holiday Photo Album

23 Dec 00 - 04:39 PM (#362377)
Subject: Mudcat Family Holiday Photo Album
From: catspaw49

I thought I'd start this now so everybody can think about getting a few in here.

Struck me that it would be nice if we could link a few family holiday pictures here. I know a lot of us have scanners or digital cameras or both and it would be great to see everyone's family at Christmas and New Years wherever you might be. There are several sites to use for album pics that we can all link too, so what about it?

Take some pix for us to enjoy too. I'll post a few right after Christmas and again at New Years. I dunno'..........Just kinda' thought it was a neat idea.

uh, Spaw? Sounds like a wonderful idea, but you're gonna hafta help ole Banj out there, alright? Banj, hang in there....one of them is www.driveway.com. For an example of it, please see Jeri's recent, like this week, thread "BS-Photos from Barry's."

Can't wait to see those smiling faces of your boys and of you and Karen, Spaw! Will see what we can do on this end, though it looks pretty non-trad around our house, not even a tree at this point, but may do tonight.

Banj, you Incredi......no, you passed that rank......

Anyway.......Here are two sites that several have used and they are pretty similar. Posting the pics isn't too hard and then you use an open addy so all can view when you link it. Just follow the directions and its fairly simple (and so is Banj, so it looks like a match).

Photoloft

Driveway

Well, it kinda halfway works....You need to click on the two picture titles that appear to view them...Jeri's all came up as thumbnails....How'd she do that??? HELLLLLLPPPPPP!!

well, it goes NOWHERE unless you allow cookies..*grump*...various services differ as to whether they let you in without being able to identify & trace you...I use http://www.photoloft.com and they don't seem to demand to set a cookie in order to allow you to look...I will think about my pre-disposition against cookies

ohh..I see! driveway is a storage site...not an album site! You CAN put pictures there for people, but you need to give them a password and user name...Photopoint and Photoloft and others in the site I posted make 'albums' to view by anyone...sort of 2 different approachs..(Driveway can be used for ANY files...text, programs, etc.., but it isn't designed for casual viewing)

Bill, if you will check the thread that Kat mentioned above, it was written by Jeri, there is a link there that one just clicks on and it goes right to the site, no password needed. I guess my pewter is set to allow cookies, because I don't remember having to ok anything. I just clicked the link and *poof* I was there. What I can't figure out is how she got all her pictures into thumbnail format on one page and mine are seperate. Technology and progress, wonderful things when taken in moderation....with apologies to Mark Twain!

Banj, did you try going to your pages with the photos and just copying the addy from that and pasting it directly to here? I've looked at both yours and Jeri's html code in your links and don't see anything different except the file names etc on hers. I think it should be a simple link from your main page addy, but of course I could be wrong:-)

Yeah, Kat, that's what I did. I first looked at Jeri's with the page source option in my browsers view file and saw what she did. Then I copied and pasted the URL of my open page right here to the message reply and it didn't seem to work. We will keep messing with it until we figure it out, thanks for the help and advice....keep it coming....I sure need it!!

oy? And YOU'RE worrying about Christmas pics? I didn't mean to turn the thread into an "PHOTO HTML for DUMMIES" session, but if anybody else wants to try it, Photoloft is the way to go. You can set up different albums, put captions with them, and seemingly do a lot more than on the other site. (You can even turn them into e-mail greeting cards or have them printed out in quantity, for a fee I imagine)Now, if I can just remember to keep my camera with me during the festivities, we should see some results soon!

Banjer, email a "share" to yourself of any folder on Driveway that you want others to access - then use the URL that is in the email your receive to make a link here. You have to use the SHARING link, not just the location in your browser, for other people to access the folder.

Sorcha, the red one is a Chow/Shephard mix. He has the body and blue tounge of a Chow but his face is more Shephard. He is our (my wife's and mine) dog. The two Labs are actually Lab/Pit Bull mixes but their Lab traits are very dominant. They are MY special grandpuppys!!!

Thank You, 'Spaw for the kind words. I picked up my banjo and ALMOST got the granddaughter to sing Joy To The World with me, but she shied out! Maybe next time I'll get her started.

Fer cryin' out loud - I just saw this thread! You coulda PM'd me. Haven't bitten anyone's head off for doing that yet.

Thumbnails: There's a little thing towards the top of the of the Driveway page that says "FILE VIEW." Click on "Thumbnails."

The correct URL: (When you copied and pasted the URL above, it was to your personal edit page, not the shared page.)

To get the one for the page you want to share with people, you can go into "Share, click on the doohicky to share the file and send yourself an e-mail, inviting yourself to look at your page. The correct URL will be in that message, and you can copy and paste it here.

Photoloft may be easier, as they assume you want to share everything you put up. Driveway, at 25MB, could come in very handy for storage of all sorts of stuff.

Sorry for not noticing the questions earlier and for taking up space here with "how to" stuff. And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread...

Early Christmas pix from our house: Merlee fills in for Santa's reindeer and poops out on the sofa!

Well, kat, the Merlin is surely working hard, there, especially with that silly hat on. Neither of ours would submit to a hat of any kind......pride, ya know? The Pembroke Welsh just don't submit to things as easily as the McNabs......;) Merry Christmas to Merlee too....it's a nasty job, but somebody has to do it.

Oh, my, Merlee sure does look like what I would think a hardworking reindeer should look like! What silly hat? I don't see any silly hat, I see his antlers...Very nice Kat..

Jeri, the more I look, the more I like Photoloft..unless I'm reading it wrong, you get 50mb of storage as opposed to just 25 on Driveway. Anyhow, I have with help, figured out how to use both. I consider this a very noce present...an addition to my knowledge of things computer...We've come a long way from the first Commodore C64, haven't we?

Wonderful thought 'Spaw, the whole extended Mudcat Family sharing pictures...Never knew I had so many aunts, uncles, cousins, and yes, even brothers and sisters!! After the Christmas show and tell tapers off I have some other picture collections I am working on putting into the Photoloft that I will show you. Great pictures from all!! Of course this opens up a whole new concept..why just at Christmas time? Why not share with each other pictures of our many activities, instruments that we like, partys that we may have been to....the possibilities are endless!!

Fine lookin' group there, Mr. Bill...Left comments also in your guestbook. The way it was figured out which you were is by clicking on the little magnifying glass at the right center of the opening screen of Photoloft and then following the prompts and answering questions until you get to a list of groups that you can view. Although we have the Mudcat Album, this is very interesting also. Gives us a chance to share things that would otherwise probably not get into the Mudcat Album. Lovely idea there 'Spaw!!!! Thanks!

....uh, yeah.

I hope a few others see this as its been fun. If you'vechecked out the pix, you'll find some fine looking families, but I gotta' tell ya'............

Last night I noticed that Bill, Banj, Micca and I were the worst parts of the pictures. The families all looked happy and beautiful....even the dogs!!! But as I noted on another thread, Micca and Banj look like matching scouring pads, I look like I just farted, and Bill seems to have mugged Smokey the Bear for his hat!

Anyway....Howzabout a few more????

Banjer, do you have any relatives in the UK called Martin Nail? Because you could be brothers or cousins (although, I understand that in Alabama that is usually the same thing......), he plays squeeze box though.....

Some good pics there, but not the one of me with what looks like the longest bogie in the world.... I was chewing on a piece of beef and the edge is the desk in the room behind.

10 brownie points for who ever can tell me what is on the screen in the background....!

No Liz, sorry to disapoint, but I know of no relatives in England. I do have some shirtail relations in Germany. Besides, I live in Florida, not Alabama. I guess you could say (geographicaly of course) that we are lower than Alabama! I don't know about New Years being a net clogger around here. I will no doubt be in bed long before the ball drops. I will however be up again at around 11:45. I was reminded of the tradition that I call my mother and wish her a Happy New Year right at the stroke of midnight. I have been doing that for as long as I have been away from home, some 32 years now.

Matching scouring pads???? I have been accused of and been called some strange things in my time but never yet been compared to a scouring pad. Kinda like it though...It's different....Teheeeee

Wish I had a piccy of the sign pointing to the toilets on the Stone Pier, Weymouth Harbour - it points directly out to sea!

The other is a cattle crossing sign - silhouette of a cow in a red triangle, poised firmly over a sign that says Wynford Eagle. Funny looking livestock round there!

Mr. Bill, she's talking about she is going to have to buy a camera first, the way I read it. Ms. Bonnie, a suggestion, so you can still get in on the fun for this New Years, get one of those disposable, one time use cameras that comes all ready to go. You could pick one up tommorow and still be in time for the New Years whatever that may be happenin'. You other folks also, if you haven't got digital or scanning capabilities any number of us that do would be happy to help get YOUR memories on the site so that all may share them with you. Like Mr. Bill said, PM me also if you like and I too would be happy to help out.

Yes wondeful pix from all who participated. Like 'Spaw, I wish we could get more.

John, if you have a scanner just scan your pix, save to a file, or to a disc in your A Drive, and then go to the photoloft site and follow the instructions. (There is even a feature which I learned where you can upload multi images by e-mail!) Like Kat said, I figured it out. (If I could figure it out I am sure you can also.) Thanks everybody for the neat pictures.

Kim, I noticed the period impression, you are hard to place in a certain time, but hubby looks like something in a Confederate Infantry, late war, c1863-1865. Am I in the ballpark?

Thanks everybody for your very nice comments. Auntie's house actually belonged to Uncle's mom and dad, and he wasn't sure of the age but he guessed it was built in the 1920s-30s. The house up the road from them, however, was John Hunt Morgan's headquarters at one point during the Civil War.

Banjer, Mister is wearing a reproduction Columbus Depot jacket and you are definitely in the ballpark. I think they started making those in 1862 but I don't rightly know.

The great fur hat, I bought last summer for $8 in an antique mall in Paducah, KY. It has served me well these cold days. Also it came in real handy when I decided to change my name to Svetlana. :)

Very nice, 'Spaw. Mike and Tristan both seem to still be on a "Christmas high" Good for them....We older folks tend to put it behind us too fast! AS for your interpretation of Jaeger's facial expression "Aw geez....Why is he bothering my sleeping time with that damn flashing thing?" I think you may have cleaned up the phrase for a G rating. He looks more like he's saying "OK, blind me with that damn thing again and your ass is my supper, get my drift?"
