I'm looking for the title of the song containing the line "You Knew I Was A Snake" 50's or early 60's era Folk-song like, artist first name Oscar maybe. Need title of song and/or artist name.

You're thinking of Oscar Brown, Jr.

Rosalie Sorrels does it as a recitation called "Snake Toast."

This is originally a Brer Possum story, and there is the origina; African story from which it came. Brand may have done it as a song, but every storyteller in the country knows it. And wishes we could do pitiful snake like Jackie Torrance. -- MA
