Lyr Req: The Eggplant That Ate Chicago (jug band)

Subject: Jug band music
From: Boston Boy

Does anyone know, or have, the words to a song called, "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago"? It was a silly bit of drivel from the 60's, that was played by a jug band. The chorus went:

You better watch out for,
The Eggplant that ate Chicago,
If he's still hungry,
The whole country's doomed.

I'd also be interested in words to other 'jug band' style songs. Thanks.

"The Eggplant That Ate Chicago" was recorded by Dr. West's Medicine Show and Junk Band. It was written by Norman Greenbaum who later had a big hit with "Spirit in the Sky" and I'm Casey Kasem.

The Eggplant that Ate Chicago

(chorus)
You better watch out for the eggplant that ate Chicago
For he might eat your city soon
You better watch out for the eggplant that ate Chicago
If he's still hungry the whole country's doomed

He came from outer space lookin for something to eat
He landed in chicago he thought Chicago was a treat
(it was sweet, it was just like sugar)

chorus

break

repeat verse and chorus

If you have any specific requests let me know. I know a lot of legitimate jug band songs as well as much silly drivel from the 60's.

If it is old time jug band music you are looking for, then I would certainly recommend Cannon's Jug Stompers on Yazoo 1082/3. The recordings were made in 1928 and 1929 and include the original version of Walk Right In. Just a few more are Minglewood Blues, Feather Bed, Pig Ankle Strut, Going To Germany. . .

The CD has 24 cuts, but an earlier lp version on Herwin had many more because it included alternate takes as well.

Amen.

Also check out The Memphis Jug Band, Yazoo 1067.

"Spirit In The Sky" didn't make much more sense.
