There are a million guitar tab sites on the net... anyone found a good mandolin tab website yet???

Gonna give this little shrill thing a go, provided I can get the intonation set up properly...

Anybody know of a site or free/cheap software to generate mandolin tab from ABC?

"alltabs" - you need a particular application to read them (and play them for you) but you can download the basic version for n'owt - check out the "alltabs" site for this.

Sorry, revived an old thread and added a different question, instead of making a new one... what we want is to input abc data and get out mando tab... any takers?

Best I've found is Tabledit. the demo version is free, and the full version inexpensive. This also gives you access to the thousandas of Mando tabs at Co-mando.com or mandolin cafe.

You could try here: post about abc to tab and try to PM the guy concerned.

If not I have a way that you can do it but it is more longwinded. From ABC you can convert it to a midi file as I'm sure you know - eg you go to Concertina.net and save a midi file. I'd then import the file into something like Guitar Pro 5 which I happen to have and it would produce something like this - Example of tab.

I would have thought it would be easier just to work it out on the mandolin!

There is also a program called Melody Assistant which I just tried which produced the following directly from ABC. 20 euros for full version but you can download and test it and produce tabs -

It seems to have ignored the triplet but I didn't pay too much attention to it

Have a look at Nigel Gatherer's website......and better still come to the LGMA weekend workshop in may in the borders of Scotland..see LGMA website. The Lanarkshire Mandolin and guitar association website has lots of helpful stuff.

I've got Melody Assistant, but have never used it for tab! We'll have to give that a try.

Probably nowhere as its still under copyright. However, its not that difficult a piece and the guitar chords are published.
