Lyr/Tune Req: Cherokee Maiden (from Bob Wills)

Subject: Cherokee Maiden Music or Lyrics
From: billssss@gnn.com (Bill Schilling)

A couple of weeks ago I posted a request for Maiden's Prayer which I thought a friend wanted. She now tells me that the Bob Wills tune she wants is Cherokee Maiden. She's most interested in the melody, but the lyrics would also help.

Thanks.

Hi, bill! I can't help much with the melody, but here are
All the lyrics I can remember from Cherokee maiden.

CHEROKEE MAIDEN, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys
(Typical Bob Wills Texas swing style)

My little Cherokee maiden, I love her so
And though we're far apart
I know I'll never be trading my lover for her
Or anybody else's heart.
Some day I'll take a trip back to that Cherokee Strip
And I'll carry her away with me and
Straight as an arrow flies, we'll find our paradise,
My sweet little chickadee
My little Cherokee maiden and me.

Note: I think Merle Haggard may have also recorded this.

Hope this helps

Howdy Len,

Thanks for the help with the words. They'll help as we continue to search for the melody. I know it's got to be out there somewhere in the cosmos.
