Annamill's gathering 2/10/01

Subject: Annamill's gathering 2/10/01
From: annamill

Hi my friends! It's that time again! The river is frozen, the fireplace is hot, and I have plenty of room and blowup beds. Last night the big full moon on the icey river was magnificent!

There will be plenty of food, plenty of drink( including the vile black stuff Mick ), plenty of friends, plenty of music. I still have my big couch, though it all the worse for wear.

I hope everyone can be there.

Love, annamill (I almost wrote annap again)

SINSULL, You couldn't make it last year, but we loved your lemon squares. I'm glad you could come this time. Lookin' forward!

I'm sorry Bill. Maybe next time. How are you feeling?

That's OK. Bill, just make the spirit 'whiskey'.

Anna, is this going to be a dry run for the tour, complete with stage and audience or is it just a Mudcat gathering.

Hurrumph!!!, that didn't sound right "just a Mudcat gathering", but you know what I mean.

I'll practise as though it is going to be on stage.

See Ya!

Bert.

I've put it on my calendar. Sure hope to be able to make this one. Will need directions and the motel list you posted before. Can't do the sleeping on the floor thing anymore. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can be there this time. Really looking forward to it.

Here we go! Karen, I have a pretty comfortable sofa bed in a private room if you like. You can have it.

Carol, only Mudcatters ;-)

I hope the DC people will come. We have Rib and Marge, Charlie Baum, Kathy, ummm, oh lots of people.

Naemanson, yes we're in Jersey. If you decide to be here, I'll send you directions.

Bert, bring Tre please! Glenn has created a music room with a sound system with mikes and everything. I won't be charging at this gathering ;-), but, if I get enough performers, I could set up a gig easily enough. We'll discuss it.

Love, annamill

Anamill - Sorry, the Mrs and I cannot make it since we will be returning from the Tom Rush 60th birthday bash in St Thomas that day. Otherwise would love to and will try our best to be around the next time. We are in Eastern Pennsylvania so Jersey should not be much of a stretch. Kind of feel bad not to be able to come as would love to meet Catters in person. Sigh

Burke, these are simply gathering of 'Catters at anna's home for music, friendship, and food......no real agenda. Anna was the first to open her home to a bunch of people she didn't know and since then we must be the "getting togetherness" group on the net. The tone of this place changed a few years ago and folks began reaching out in the 3-D world and since that time ther are fewer "good friends, unmet" then there used to be. Kast summer, Allan C. and Bill Sables (from England) took off on a big loop of the US staying at 'Catters homes nad having gatherings from Connecticut to Colorado. This is avery different kind of place here and the open feelings and friendships made are pretty significant. If you can, make it to anna' or to one gathering or another.....sometimes as part of fests, sometimes just for fun.

A month or so back, we had one in Manchester, New Hampshire and Manchester, England going on at the same time!!!!

This sounds very tempting. You're not too many miles northeast of me. Annamill, I'd love to be included in your gathering provided this pinched nerve in my back has healed by then. I'd need the name and number of a nearby hotel.

Well, I'm pretty sure I can make it. Three-day weekend - right? I've never had time or opportunity to sing into a mic before...could be interesting. ("Oh jeez - who let Jeri get near that microphone again. Will someone go sit her down in her chair and give her some cheeze doodles or something...")

Looking forward to seeing you and Honey again, and maybe getting a peek at the wedding photos. It will also be nice to see that lovely house now that you've had a chance to live there a while.

Subject: RE: Annamill's gathering 2/10/01
From: annamill

Hasn't changed much Jeri. ;-) BTW, don't you remember singing at that little pub when folk1234 came out and we went to hear some folkie type music. You were up there girl! Played some fiddle, did some singing.

Susan, can't you postpone that meeting???? This is much more important!! Will Dick be able to be here??

Rowena, because this is a tourist area, the motels can be expensive. Roger (Rib) and Marge stay at a Red Roof motel nearby. Maybe I can get the number from them. You're more than welcome to sleep here. The sleeping is mostly rustic. On blowup beds in the gym, or the music room, or on a big couch in the living room. This couch holds two people, one at each end. One end is already spoken for for Jeri. But the other is open.

Allan, your heart is not breaking half as bad as mine. :-(

I have a music room set up for Honey's band "The Jettyrat's" (not folk). It has a new sound system with two mikes. We can even record if we like. It'll be fun. It'll be a not so dry run for future gigs.

By the way, it's much nicer than the old, cold, damp basement.

Ah! Tales from a past gathering.
Jeri, you not only sang on stage, you danced! As I recall, you were trying to emulate that electric bass player who seemed to jump straight up on every 3rd or 4th beat. I, of course, sat gentlemanly, quiet, and composed in the audience, clapping politely for those on stage (I think?).
Anna, I don't think I can make it. Jed Marum is going to be up-this-a-way around then. Plus I'd need some boondoggle, at taxpayers' expense, to get to NJ next month.

Folk1234, I don't remember jumping. I certainly don't think I would have jumped while I was playing. Singing, maybe. Weren't you off to one side playing Jimi Hendrix style air guitar with your teeth?

I'll see if I can learn any old Heart songs before the gathering. Or maybe some Stevie Nicks, or Linda Ronstadt or Joni Mitchell or Janis Joplin, or...maybe I just better forget it.

Yeah annap....Carol is throwing you over to go to Orillia in the middle of the witer to meet some dubious 'Catters up there. Makes you feel pretty bad doesn't it? Mid-winter in Ontario at a place that you can see all of from the bed of a pickup and has a penchant for closing down about 3 in the afternoon. A place so devoid of anything that one of its residents, a certain Little Hawk, has nothing to do but read symbolism into long winded Dylan songs and hold worship services for Major Tom, psychotic astronaut. A town where a single lit fart constitutes a fireworks display. A little village with a mall so boring that the store owners go to people's homes to hang out. A micropolis so small that Tim Horton's serves the coffee after its 20 minutes old.....often several days after.

How does this make you feel anna? I'd write her and complain if I were you!!!!!

I'm seriously doubting at the moment. This isn't a three-day weekend. What it would amount to is a 7+ hour drive there, party, and a 7+ hour drive back on not enough sleep and work the next day. I would have done it in a flash when I was 20, but I'm an older, wimpier person now.

Would evryone be monumentally upset if we changed it to the 19th? That would give us a 3 day weekend (President's Day) and we could have more time. If it is an inconvience for ANYONE, we won't change it. It's just that more people may be able to be there. Let me know your thoughts please and be honest. Also, the weather may be better.

There seems to be some confusion as to dates. Here it is. I was going to wait til tomorrow to finally decide so I could hear from everyone, but most will be able to make it on the 17 and a few who couldn't be here on the 10th will be able to be here on the 17th.

SO THE FINAL DATE IS 2/17/01 -2/19/01.

(I hope Max and Bert can come)

I am glad you could change it. Now I get to see Sorcha Dorcha and attend the gathering.

Karen, I'm so happy you'll be able to make it, barring problems of course. The list is pretty much what you see in this thread. I'm hoping a few locals, that I was introduced to by Dick and Susan of DT, will be able to make it. Soon.
