01 Feb 01 - 06:53 AM (#387334) Subject: RE: BS: SIR KNOWALL GOB, part deaux From: Dave the Gnome For part one of this thread go to BORING KNOWALLS As anagrams have already been brought up can I suggest the thread title (now anagran-ised itself) may contain some clues as to the character of Mr Harmoniclive??? Guessing he realy wants to compliment Bob, and Bob does sometimes use the other diminutive of Robert we find "All-Knowing Robs". Praise indeed. I think however we may be nearer the mark with "Allis WrongKnob" if anywhere near "Allis" Spings that is??? If, however he is nearer Espana we can find "Signor Wallknob". Fed up of BritHumour 'knob' jokes? OK - perhaps he is realy the famous Scandanavian gay porn star, Larson Blow King.... Guessing he cannot actualy find sexual partners however I think "Wanks roll in bog" may be better. My favourite, however, summing up the attitude of a remote flamer... No Balls Working.... Enjoy DtG |

01 Feb 01 - 12:17 PM (#387514) Subject: RE: BS: SIR KNOWALL GOB, part deaux From: Steve Parkes I don't like to brag (only because I'm too modest), but A letter I wrote to Computer Weekly magazine (that's a Trade mag, not a nerd mag, BTW) prompted a cartoon of moi with the caption "Strictly speaking, I'm a knowall, not a pedant". (It was a good likeness, too, except for the moustache.) How many Mudcatters have that kind of distinction, eh? Smugly, Steve P.S. I'm not Canadian (but I know a man who is) |

02 Feb 01 - 05:48 AM (#388103) Subject: RE: BS: SIR KNOWALL GOB, part deaux From: Wolfgang Alex, would you consider it cheating if I locate requested for lyrics on the web instead of transcribing and typing them myself? We are in a new age now where we use computers with intelligence and restraint. And computers never err on the number of N's. You even can ask the anagram finder to incorporate a certain word in the solutions. In the case of harmoniclive you might want to see the word 'macho' in the solutions or the word 'vice' or the word 'civil' (like e.g. in 'He no a Mr Civil'; yes, I cheated). Wolfgang (who is convinced, sort of, that Praise uses her new handle only because it is unanagramable) |

02 Feb 01 - 08:29 AM (#388163) Subject: RE: BS: SIR KNOWALL GOB, part deaux From: Wolfgang Of course, one has to be able to read in order to use the cheater and not like I did above in my before last post: 'fuc a mad etc' would have been a correct reading of what the machine presented to me. Wolfgang |
02 Feb 01 - 08:54 AM (#388179) Subject: RE: BS: SIR KNOWALL GOB, part deaux From: Snuffy Yah Boo Sucks is a not very polite expression, meaning something like "put that in yer pipe and smoke it" or "I am right and you are wrong. So there!" You had said Praise's new name was unanagrammable and Steve gave you an anagram of Praise. But Steve didn't know you meant "WYSIWYG" not "Praise". So you were right and can tell Steve "Yah boo sucks to you, too!" |

Don't do it in that thread though-- start an anagram thread. People don't know the fun we are having here. CATSPAW actsawp, dun't he? THE SUGAR DOG sure got d hag. ~Susan |

02 Feb 01 - 11:29 AM (#388277) Subject: RE: BS: SIR KNOWALL GOB, part deaux From: mousethief Wolfie: Using a computer to create anagrams is "cheating" because an anagram is a mind-teasing type of puzzle, the point of which is to try to use your mind to come up with the scramble. It's like using a computer to fill out a magic number square. It's kinda pointless. In looking up lyrics for people, the point is coming up with the lyrics, not doing it from memory or typing by hand. Apples and oranges, my good wolf. Alex |

02 Feb 01 - 03:07 PM (#388547) Subject: RE: BS: SIR KNOWALL GOB, part deaux From: Mary in Kentucky mousethief, I'm with Wolfgang on this one. Not letting us "cheat" by using internet help is like telling a math class they can't use calculators. Sure, there is a place for mental calculations and knowing HOW to do long division of decimals...but we can do more higher level creative thinking when we are released from "chores" which we may not be good at, or just have a roadblock, or just don't want to spend time doing. 'Ill Egg Axer', or 'Glee Girl Ax', have you checked yours? :) Eb |
