Can you folks tell me about these guitars? I have heard they are good instruments. I can't afford a Martin and this might be the answer. I am not a beginner, but most of my pickin is 5 String. I need a guitar I can play and sing to my Grandaughter. Jeepman

I owned a 12 string, sold it for twice what I paid. It was an excellent guitar. I currently own a 6 string, and it is as good as I will ever need, I say if it plays well, it should serve you well for a number of years.

I just bought a bottom of the line Takamine with built in electrics for a working guitar. It plays as if it had been set up by a luthier. Sounds beautiful through an amp and pretty good accoustically. A lot of pros play them; watch for them on TV. My pals at the music shop say they have a lot less problems with Takamines than any other similarly priced instruments.

They're a good stage guitar, although I replaced the pickup with the Fishman Matrix.

I find them a bit 'light', and only ever use mine for finger picking in open Dminor (D A D F A D)
I was happy enough with its acoustic sound, and it miked up pretty well, also.

For other practical purposes, I couldn't use it for much more, though.
And, like the Ovations, the neck isn't totally comfortable. I wouldn't actually call it a workhorse of an instrument.

Then, again, it depends on how much work you want it to do.

But certainly worth having.

Taks get generally good reviews and are gaining some stage usage, especially with the Nashville set. They have an interesting history which you can read along with some other info on this thread. Play some and see what you think, but from a quality standpoint, they're excellent. Sound, fit, feel......that part is up to you!!!
