I have found this in several places on the web both the tabs and 2 verses. On the tape I have he sings 4 or 5 verses.(the tape is a copy of a copy)

I am hoping someone will send me the entire song. Jeepman

Here they are if we don't have them this way on the 'Cat. This is the Mississippi John Hurt rendition:

CANDY MAN BLUES

Well all you ladies gather 'round
That good sweet candy man's in town
It's the candy man
It's the candy man

He likes a stick of candy just nine inch long
He sells as fast a hog can chew his corn
It's the candy man
It's the candy man

All heard what sister Johnson said
She always takes a candy stick to bed
It's the candy man
It's the candy man

Don't stand close to the candy man
He'll leave a big candy stick in your hand
It's the candy man
It's the candy man

He sold some candy to sister Bad
The very next day she took all he had
It's the candy man
It's the candy man

If you try his candy, good friend of mine,
you sure will want it for a long long time
It's the candy man
It's the candy man

His stick candy don't melt away
It just gets better, so the ladies say
It's the candy man
It's the candy man

He's such a stickler for detail, the little pest. But he is Father Joebro and his confessional is always open......well, at least generally, unless he's working with the altar boys..............................

Alter boys, riiiiight. Does this have anything to do with P's and Q's? Or Cursing Pornagraphy? We should all curse pornagraphy with all our hearts, right?

(riiiiiiiight, for what good it would do)

Sorry Joe, we're a little over the top tonight.

Good catch......I copied that direct from the site and didn't read it carefully........I'll get someone to change it before it gets harvested.

It is good that you spent some time up north Ol' Buddy.........I mean like we got us 26 alphabet letters and all, whereas Mississippi only has one that they use three times.....................

Jeepman — the name of your thread is Lyr/Chords Req.

Do you need the chords? They're pretty simple — just a long A (index finger 1,2,3,4S, 2F and little finger 1S, 5F) and E7.

The grace notes make the guitar interesting and they're simple — still in the long A, hammer on 2S, 3F and then walk down on the 5S from the 5F to the 2F.

The break is pretty simple, too. I don't do exactly what MJH does on it; I just use a D configuration up to the 9F, rock it to the 8F and back to 9F. Do a 6S slide all the way down going into the E7 and then back to long A. It sounds a lot harder than it really is.

cheers,

david

P.S. I hope I've described it properly — don't have a guitar right now to check on all the position, but I think that's right.

Damn — as soon as I posted that I started to doubt the long A walkdown to E7 in the first part. I think that's done on the 4S.

Sorry,

david
