Stopped about 10 years later, after being leader at around 20 or so camps. It was fantastic, brill, amazing .... etc. I am told by many friends who still go that it still is, but in many different ways. For me, its delight was its simplicity and the fact that everyone was there to take part and contribute. My later camps were spoiled by people who came "to be entertained", spent most of their time off-site "doing their own thing" and were constantly complaining that things weren't "right". Like so many things, you will get out of a folk camp proportionally to what you put in. We have made some great friends over the years and are still in touch with many of them - even if it is only once in three years! Go along with the intention of "geeting involved" and you won't be dissappointed! |

We have a camper and would probably cater for ourselves though, would this lessen the enjoyment? should we be TOTALLY involved? Lucy |

We are suffering from withdrawal symptoms as almost all the camps were cancelled last year due to "Foot and Mouth." Our kids are still delighted to come with us , as they have made loads of friends through the years. (They would revolt if we said we weren't Folk Camping!) The main emphasis is definately participation, but nobody is forced into anything! It's always a joy to meet up with folk we haven't seen for ages and try and anticipate who might be at any of the camps. There is always an AGM and re-union Ceilidh in December, where you can re-live memorable experiences! Go for it! Dalton is highly recommended at the start of the season, it's one of the friendliest camps around - rather like a Mudcat Gathering that goes on for days! 8Pints |

Also, if you're going to a French camp don't bother taking food (talk about coals to Newcastle). The catering in France, both solid and liquid, is great. Catering in British camps is good but basic - stews and stuff. If the kids have not been brought up to appreciate good basic ingredients, then you're going to need a supply of junk food and sweets. |

This camp was terrific - lots of fabulous singing. It will be re-run on this site again next year, so anyone who enjoys a good sing should put it in their diary now!
