Help: Please define Mudcat's 'Song Challenges

Hi! I thought I saw a thread or two in the forum about song challenges. What are you talking about, specifically?

I post articles at themestream.com, and various members sometimes issue fun Challenges -- i.e., 'Write a poem using 10 titles of your articles,' or, 'Re-write a fairy tale,' etc.. Then, the originator of the challenge posts a list of all the responses, usually.

Is that what you do, here? I haven't been able to really check it all out, yet.

Thanks, anyone!

That's about it, Granny.

Aine posts a current events story - usually a humorous one - and people write songs about it and post them in the threads. If you go to Quick Links at the top of this page and select "Aine's Mudcat Songbook," you can view the results of previous song challenges.

Or pull up an old thread, they are titled [Song Challenge!].

I think the FAQ thread has some info too. I know Aine is planning to add or revise, there.

Or just watch for the next thread so titled, and jump on in!

or go to an old challange thread and add on your contribution if you so choose. According to the Handbook of MudCat Song Challenges (Revised edition), a Song challenge is never completed and additions are welcomed.

And when you do submit, you have to do your damnedest to piss off the Gaelic Goddess....by saying something like Dear old cranky toothless Aine, here is my latest entry or something of that sort....

. . . and the clouds, now darkened by the wrath of the goddess, parted, and the word was heard . . .

. . . he shall pay for that remark . . .

Dear granny,

I sure hope that you'll be joining the ranks of the other wonderful Challenge!rs soon! Jump on in the water, the Mudcats are biting! You can take a look at the latest Song Challenge! here. And you can check out the other talented scribblings from earlier Challenge!s here.

And don't listen to Ancient Amergin -- he's just some ole toot that the goddess puts up with, you know, like an annoying bug that keeps buzzing 'round your head out by the garbage dump. *BG*

Hoping to see you soon in the Songbook, Áine
