Sine is downtown and IMO is a plastic paddy place (takes one to know one) but they dropped lots on the decor and is worth checking out. Rare Olde Times is real (Irish and a proper pint), and is located at Pump & Patterson on the West End. There is generally music Wednesday thru Saturday and sometimes Mondays. Worth a call ahead (804-750-1346) to see what's up. If you can't work out the trip west, may want to check out Penny Lane Pub downtown. Beatle-centric but you'd have a better chance for a good pint than Sine. Hope you enjoy your stay! |

I'm not sure if they even have Powers (too smoky the one time I tried to go there) in addition to/instead of Bushmills. Their menu is a howl - they take some normal American dish like a burger, stick an Irish place name in it (like Limerick Burger), and that's Irish... it's really fairly pitiful, but to me, highly entertaining. Some day without the boys I'll have to check it out for real, it might be that their Limerick Burger or whatever is yummy! (But I bet their potatoes can't hold a candle to the ones over there...) |
