Lyr Req: My Way parody

Years ago, I heard Sam Hinton sing a wonderful parody of "My Way," with higher education as the theme.

Does anyone have the lyrics?

Thanks.

I know the song, although I never associated it with Sam Hinton. I am a new member & am not clear on how to post lyrics. If someone will point me to the instructions, I'll be glad to help.

Here it is. Again, I never heard about the Sam Hinton link.

THEIR WAY
Author and singer unknown.
From Prairie Home Companion.
^^^

I came, bought all my books, lived in a dorm, followed directions,
I worked, I studied hard, met lots of folks who had connections.
I crammed, they gave me grades, though may I say not in a fair way,
But more, much more than this, I did it their way.

I learned a lot of facts although I know I'll never use them.
The courses that I took were all required; I didn't choose them.
La la la ...
And so I settled down and did it Their Way.

But there were times I wondered why I had to walk when I could fly.
I had my doubts, but after all, I clipped my wings, I learned to crawl.
I learned to bend, and in the end, I did it Their Way!

And now, my fine young friend, I have become a full Professor,
Where once I was oppressed, I have become the cruel Oppressor!
Like me, you'll learn to fly, you'll learn to climb life's golden stairway!
Like me, you'll see the light. You'll do it Their Way!

What can I say, what can I do?
Go to the book, read Chapter 2.
And if to you it seems routine, don't speak to me, go tell the Dean.
As long as they give me my pay, I'll do it Their Way.

Bill Moore

Hi, Jesus H Murgatroyd! Thank you thank you thank you thank you! I'm bashing away at a sociology paper that's about to drive me stark barking mad. I needed this in ways you will probably never even want to know. Thank you again, Owl.

Matt Wotroba, a wonderful singer from Ann Arbor, MI, and The Ark's favorite son, does a wonderful rendition of this song. It is his most requested.........no wonder given where he lives.

Of course, it is already in the DT, as Their Way. Guys, if you search for a phrase in the song, you are much more likely to find it.

Many thanks!

Now I'm dying for the missing line, too, but maybe someone can find it and supply it.

BTW, I tried searching the DT database before I posted the initial query, but what came up as Their Way wasn't this song.

Thanks again.

Sarah

Socalstoker, follow this link to the full text of the song in the Digital Tradition.

And to give credit where credit is due, the author of the song is Bob Blue, who has written many other wonderful songs. Here's a link to a web site about Bob. And in the course of looking up this information, I came across a page that said that it was Michael Cooney who sang "Their Way" on Prairie Home Companion.
