Roughage

Has any one heard the rap "Roughage" from Frantic Times? The lyrics are somthing like this:

Roughage in cabbage, roughage in prunes Eat a whole bowl full keep me in tune Used to be stuck up, now I'm improving Eating my roughage gets me moving

It's Roughage ya ya ya ya ya ya It's Roughage ya ya ya ya ya ya

Used to be torpid heavy and slow Then I got roughage go with the flow Never mind [something like that] smoothage that's overrated Rather be loose than constipated

It's roughage ya ya ya ya ya ya It's roughage ya ya ya ya ya ya It's Roughage!

Rougage is important, especially with the levels of processing in our food systems. Surely there must be more songs supporting such a worthy cause. The world would be a better place if the food in our leaders intestines had shorter transit times.

From Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

From head to toe
I'm alive, I'm a-tingle I'm aglow
And I owe it all to roughage
Rough, rough, roughage....

Reminds me of some line the Goons used to do after a musical "raspberry" phrase: "Eat More Fruit". It also got used on a TV ad to promote the eating of fruit.

Yea I'm at a rough age
but seriously folks, porridge every morning, I do it over night in a slow cooker. It saves time in the morning. It tastes a whole lot better than cabbage, and has a lot less sugar than Allbran.

I remembered The second verce, it goes like this:

I used to be torpid heavy and slow. Then I got roughage go with the flow. Roughage beets smoothage that's overrated. Rather be loose than constipated!

I would think that slow cooking porridge overnight would make it as unhealthy as fully processed Pabulum, Mr. Red. Rolled oats are already cooked when they are rolled. They are not as nutritious as the oats that our Scottish ancestors carried in their pockets and chewed on all day. To get half the benefit the old folks got from oats, you need to treat them with respect, not cook them too much. Keep them big and chunky so that they feel like a front-end loader rolling down your lower intestine.

(Slight thread creep) regarding roughage/loosage..A fellow (nice looking, but I wasn't interested at the time), once proudly informed me that he was a loose gentleman. I purred that he should eat more cheese.
