I have aversion of this song as sung by Séamus MacMathúna on a Comhaltas Ceoltóirí recording CL35 titled, "The Guiness Seissiún". There are versions of it in the books "Ceolta Gael" and "Abair Amhrán". They both have the same two verses. Can any one offer background on this song, its author, any history around it, possibly any extra verses? I'll add the words I have later. Brían.

A Google search turns up a number of hits including this one: Click here for some verses.

According to Breandan Breathnach (Ceol Rince na hÉireann, vol. II) it is sung to an originally Scottish tune, Briseadh na Bóinne ("The Boyne Water").

Thanks Martin and Malcolm. I'll add that site to my favorites. Where can Ceol Rice na hÉireann be found, also, how does one get this nice bold type and italics? I can't seem to transfer it from my word pad. Go raibh míle maith agaibh!

See  Ceol Rince na hÉireann  for more info about the books.  The original edition is out of print, but there seem to be reprints of some volumes available through Amazon and others.

Bold, italics and so on are the result of html tags, which you also need for posting lyrics here.  If you right-click on the page and select "view source", you'll see the underlying code that makes the page look the way it does.  More stuff about using html is in the FAQ at the top of the Thread list on the main Forum page.
