There was a Comhaltas Branch when I was there (early '80s) and a session used to occur, as well, at the Spinning Wheel on Tuesday nights. However, this is probably out of date. I just checked "Comhaltas Vancouver" on google and did come up with several leads. This is the home page (which mentions stuff at WISE Hall) trust this is a useful lead. Cheers Rana |

Sessions are at: culpeppers Rest... 3135 W Broadway, Thursdays 8-11 and the Irish Heather has Sessions Tuesdays (they are in gastown on Carroll street near the Blarney Stone..) From: ollaimh if randy is still hosting the sessien at the irish heather, that's the friendliest group in vancouver, and some of the most skilled muscians in canada have been known to play there, there are a lot of politics and several self appointed "gods of folk" at most of the others mentioned. there are also many traditional muscians who busk in the sky train system--including me when i'm in town--they might be a help.the boat club also had a decent group but it may be ended--ask michael pratt or john gothard if you can find them |

Randy and dave are doing the session at the heather on tuesday still, a great session, but a little bit exclusive these days as they are learning a whole bunch of different tunes, so it's not as accesable to the average player, however, still a great session most of the other sessions with the 'appointed gods' have dissapeared... the one at culpeppers on Thursdays is run by mary Brunner and peter huron, a very open and welcoming session, especially for the beginner. Michael is also hosting sessions at his Celtic Wollens shop on Alma, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, 2-5pm, and a bit of a concert event on Friday nights. And i think the jericho folk starts again in may at the Jericho Sailing center on Tuesday nights... You can talk to Michael pratt about that.... They have a bit of a session then a concert event.....
