I found out that Oysterband is the name of a band, not a type of band...doh. Click here and scroll to the bottom of the page. Your specific requests aren't there, but chords for 2 songs and lyrics for one more are.

I posted lyrics to 'On the Road to Santiago' in response to a previous request - no chords though.

I didn't know "Oysterband".....I had this vision of oyster-ers sailing the sea and trawling (?) for oysters while singing/playing Oyster songs--ie, I love my oyster, yes I do.....etc.

Hi,
I got all the cds from the Oysterband at home, most of them got complete lyrics in the booklet. Let me know wich other lyrics you search usually I should have them. Most of their tunes are very easyly done which means they are not to complicated. Start in G or C or em and you'll find the rest autmatically. It's all standard riffs. What makes their sound so interesting is the way they arrange it.

I've seen them guys eight weeks ago in Stuttgart in the Röhre. As before I had only seen them on big festivals such as the Loreley and now in a cave with only 250 people in: marvelous!

Menzze,
thanks for the offer. I am looking for 'Granite Years'.

Easiest way: You could bring the lyrics sheet tomorrow. Ah, no, that was mean, I'm sorry about that. (grin)

So glad to see that the OB have reached the Mudcat. One of the great "folk/rock" acts. Hey, try buying the CDs!

Big Tim, they'd already made it some months ago, just have look on the links.
I can't give the words of "I can't get down" at the moment coz the CD is at friend, but Wolfgang, if you wanna sing "Granite Years" tomorrow and you can't because of me haven't brought along the words here they are:

GRANITE YEARS by THE OYSTERBAND

Night has drawn the curtain covered up their eyes
The angels will not hear you your spirit starts to rise
There's music from the bar drunken laughter down the hall
Is it pain or is it pleasure you are hearing through the wall?

Cruising for a bruising tattooed above the heart
It'd take the strength of Mary to hold the boys apart
They flicker in their footsteps a voltage overload
Dazzling the dancers like they're fixing to explode
You find 'em later lying in the road

CHORUS
Granite years, harbour nights, city lights and bitter tears
And you don't care where you're going
Say that I was foolish, say that I was blind
Never say that I got left behind

Love you for a lifetime but I haven't time to try
If I loved you for an hour that wouldn't be a lie
Say that I was foolish say that I was blind
A seller bought a buyer and the buyer didn't mind
Anything you ask I'll pay in kind

The wind is off the sea tonight it whistles through his soul
The solitary copper hopes that god is on patrol
A single star is shining across the evening sky
Sending us a message, they are waving us good-bye
They are waving us a long, long good-bye
Thousands of light years..........good-bye

Frippe, maybe ya like this one too. If not, Wolfgang you can take it alone. If yes you have to share it with him*bg*

Calm down envy, calm downnnnnnnnnnnnnnn...

All the best

menzze

Subject: Lyr Add: WHEN I'M UP I CAN'T GET DOWN
From: Big Tim

"When I'm Up I Can't Get Down"
Written by Ian Telfer, Alan Prosser and John Jones of the Oysterband, from the album "Holy Bandits" on Cooking Vinyl label, 1993. Copyright Momentum Music.

I am the fountain of affection, the instrument of joy,
To keep the good times rollin' I'm the boy, I'm the boy,
I say the world will be our oyster, you can put your trust in me,
We'll keep the good times rollin' wait and see, wait and see, wait and see.

Exaltation, sweet disintegration,
A few discolorations, when it comes on strong;
Up is what he chooses, the kisses and the bruises,
There's nothing he refuses when it comes along
And I am lifted, I am lifted, WHEN I'M UP I CAN'T GET DOWN,
GET MY FEET BACK ON THE GROUND

Something to blind him, something to wind him
Up, won't take long to find him and it comes along,
Wise guys are grinning, streetlights are spinning,
The night is just beginning and it comes on strong,
And I am lifted, I am lifted...

Of course, you have to hear it, with Johnny Jones on vocal and Ian Telfer on fiddle, fantastic. The song has also been recorded by Canadian band Great Big Sea.

There's tab/chords for can't get down under Great Big Sea on harmony-central.com

May be sacrilegious, but I think GBS's version's better...
Any chords bumbling about, other than rambling irishman? preferably Oxford girl or We Could Leave right now ?

Cheers

Hi, there, just found this string. Can anyone help with guitar chords for the Oxford Girl? I play in an acoustic session in my local and have been asked for this several times, by the same couple, to be sure, but it would save me the hassle of having to work them out if someone has already done this.

I always feel that Oxford Girl was based on a real happening. Suppose that's good songwriting

Granite Years:

VERSE
[D]Night has drawn the curtain [G]covered up their [A]eyes
The [D]angels will not hear you your [G]spirit starts to [A]rise
There's [D]music from the bar drunken [G]laughter down the [A]hall
Is it [Bm]pain or is it pleasure you are [G]hearing through the [A]wall?

CHORUS
Granite [D]years, harbour [A]nights, city lights and bitter [Bm]tears
And you don't [G]care where you're going
[D]Say that I was [G]foolish, [D]say that I was [G]blind
[D]Never say that [A]I got left [D]behind

Last verse (The wind is off he sea…) changes key to G

Oxford Girl starts out :

I [D] met a man whose brother said he [G] knew a man who [A]knew the Oxford [D]Girl   [D] [G] [A]

(probably not in that key, but its yer basic three chords)

Somewhere around I have 'Native Son' written down, and "Sailing by", but I'm not convinced I have that one right

Slight thread necromancy here, but does anyone know what the Welsh bit of Native Son is? (At the start of the song on the 25th anniversary album and a bonus track on Deep Dark Ocean)

I believe it's the first verse but I'm not sure and can't find anywhere either confirming or denying that.
