Hi all,

I'm looking for the lyrics to 'The Ungodly' by Decameron.

Thanks for your help!

I think you should try Google. Just type in Decameron ungodly and see what comes up.

I rather doubt many people on this site listen to Swedish death metal. Find a discussion board about that kind of music. Sorry I'm not much help, huh?

Sorcha,

Decameron isn't Swedish death metal, it's British folk of the Seventies. But thanks anyway.

Sorry, then. That is what I found with Google--so I'm even less help, huh? What I found must be a new band. Do you have any snippets of lyrics at all? Any band memeber names, etc?

It's okay, I didn't know they stole the name andthe title of the song. How misleading! Here are the lyrics (what I understand of them, that is). As for band member names, sorry, i don't know any. Some friend copied the song on a tape for me, and he didn't know either.

THE UNGODLY

Find the ungodly and break (?) them,
Find the uncaring and take them away.
Find the impartial, compel them to stand to attention
And wave a flag over them,
Demand of them their lives.

May God... (?)
May he find an easy way to dwell within them,
May God...(?)
And for what they will become,
May God forgive them! >br>

By the people I'm elected
And I serve my country well.
I stand for all that's bright and fair (?)
I stand for no one speaking ill (?) of her
But I cannot be Moses,
I cannot lead my children home,
And so I sign my name
Right (?) here and here and here.

For this I'll be remembered,
For only this I'll be remembered,
I cannot be held responsible,
(don't understand the whole last line)

I intended to post this yesterday, but got bogged down when RealPlayer refused to take "no" for an answer, and insisted on installing a new plugin for LiquidAudio, which it then tried to use to play .ra format, which of course didn't work.  (Moan, groan, rotten aggressive software...)  Anyhow, here are a couple of references:

Decameron: Biography

The song appeared on Decameron's album Third Light (Transatlantic TRA 304, 1975).  A compilation of that album and Tomorrow's Pantomime (1976) was recently re-issued on CD; for track listing and sound-samples, see

If I remember rightly Johnny Choppin used to be in Decameron. I also seem to remember them being pretty good, mind you it was a long time ago.

I heard recently on John the Fish that Decameron are reforming for a short while to do some concerts. The reason has something to do with Johnny Coppins wife being very ill. If anyone has more details I would like to know.

realised I had this LP and the words are sensibly on the back cover.

Find the ungodly and break them,
Find the uncaring and take them away.
Find the impartial, compel them to stand to attention
And wave a flag over them,
Demand of them their lives.
May God love them
May he find an easy way to dwell within them,
May God love them
And for what they will become
May God forgive them
By the people I'm elected
And I serve my country well.
I stand for all that's right and fair
And stand for no one speaking ill of her
But I cannot be Moses,
I cannot lead my children home,
And so I sign my name on here
and here and here.
For this I'll be remembered,
For only this I'll be remembered,
I cannot be held responsible,
My role is ill defined.
