judge for yourselves!!Would NASA try to deceive you?

(I don't usually start BS threads...but this awes me)

and while you are there, look at a composite picture of Earth at night

or, the **large** version caution 386k file

My reaction to the last picture is..."Looks like we have about saturated this place....where are OUR children going to live?"

What was their departing line as they left Earth in "A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe"? "So long and thanks for all the fish."

*grin*...well, it depends on how picky you be on nomenclature....since it depicts ALL of Earth with no direct sunlight on it...I thought...(or didn't think)

"Composite" is the operative word. That's an awesome pic. I know I'm going to stare at it again many times today. Thanks for posting these.

probably not noticiable. Cape Cod - where even today you can drive for a half hour at times without seeing a building is solid white in the picture.

Far out man
Actually I see a flower - a Dolphinium
And just think all those specks of light represent years of fosilized, locked-up CO2 being released per hour.

I love them! Notice Wyoming is not quite as bright as Cape Cod? That's why I live here...lol. I didn't find any captions tho. What exactly is the dolphin photo?

I seem to recall a rather surprised whale featured in the Hitchhikers Guide. Perhaps this is it!

But where's the bowl of petunias?

no porpoise...just dolphins. and mice, of course. and a sperm whale at one point, but that didn't last too long. neither did the flower pot.

KASMASH!

Sorcha...the pic is titled NGC6745 it stands for New Galactic Catalogue and represents some distant galaxy. (oh...a search took me right to http://www.kepler.demon.co.uk/html/ngc6745.html it seems it is a triple galaxy cluster in Lyra

no petunias because they are dolphiniums
unless it is just universal Oriony
I find it all a bit nebulous

If the universe has a porpoise, its undoubtedly been around for a really long time.

Does this mean that its an immortal porpoise?

If so, does it violate the Mann Act?

only if it is transported across a staid lion.

I believe, to be excruciatingly correct, that the immortal porpoise would have to be transporting gulls across the staid lions.

Subject: RE: BS: Does the universe have a porpoise?
From: Bill D

no...to be **excruciatingly** correct, 'someone' would have to be transporting gulls across the staid lions FOR immortal porpoises.

(This story has been totally re-written a number of times). here is one version ( I prefer the 'staid' version better) here is a version that gets the 'staid' but leaves out the 'immortal'....sigh*

The best version of the "tranporting young gulls" story is (of course) the one set to music by P.D.Q. Bach.

Who's Terry Pratchett?

...thinking back to when I first heard the story..(ohhh..lots of years! Brain cells need refreshing!).....The punch line, I believe, originally went..."arrested him for transporting a Mynah across a staid lion for immortal porpoises"

and the Mynah and the 'staid' aspect of the lion were elaborately embroidered
