Is there any way to get lyrics vetted and (possibly) put into the database? Failing that is there anyone looking for new lyrics in the folk genre?

(Dick and Susan have total control over what goes into the DT. They try to balance old versus new, with tunes versus without tunes, etc. Or so they say. ) (*grin* un-officially I have heard - If someone likes it enough to submit it it will eventually get in)
They can also be submitted to the MudCat songbook - (see the quicklinks above) and usually someone is available and willing to comment, critique, |

I usually find them in threads about certain song themes. For instance, there are threads where someone asked for sad songs, cowboy songs, train songs, songs about food, songs about fishing, and so on -- and other people responded by posting their favorite songs in that category -- and occasionally someone posts an original composition, too. That's the best kind of thread in which to post an original song, because otherwise, how would anyone ever find it? If you start a new thread for your original song, it will probably disappear into oblivion after 24 hours. After that, people won't go looking for it if they don't know it exists. To find threads of this kind, type "songs" into the "filter" box, and choose a long time span, e.g. 6 months. If you don't find a relevant thread within 6 months, try 1 year, 2 years, etc. Remember, as soon as you post a new message to an old thread, it will pop to the top of the list, no matter how old it is. And a thread that has generated a lot of interest in the past -- shown by the number of postings -- will likely generate a lot of interest in the future, too.

The prefix "LyrAdd" was designed for just that reason; it alerts Dick and Susan that there is a song than may need to be added to the DT, and alerts the rest of us that there's something new to look at. If you have the tune, in a MIDI format, or ABC, or Noteworthy Composer, click over here to find out how to send those along as well. (I'm still working on that part for my songs...) Aloha, Mark |
