Kirsty's recording the name of which escapes me, and possibly "The first time ever" sung by Roberta Flack. Her mother, Ruth Crawford Seeger, was a composer. There is an article about her in todays Guardian and a concert of her work at Hoxton Hall, London,tonight. 020 7359 4404 for details. It's a fair bet that Peggy will play one of her mothers pieces tomorrow. Peggy is also a great admirer of Ella Fitzgerald. |

I managed to take the 10 minutes of her time that I requested and turn it into over a half hour... and I wish I had more!!! I've done many interviews over the years, but Peggy Seeger tops my list as one of the most intelligent, witty, eloquent, funny... I'm running out of terms! The evening before the interview I had my first opportunity to watch her on stage. I vouch for her banjo skills! I also never realized how personable she can be on stage. Perhaps because she lived in Great Britian for so many years, I don't think American audiences ever had the opportunity to really appreciate the talent of Peggy Seeger. Now that she is back "home", I hope she will continue to tour and more people will re-discover what a magnificent person and performer she is! Ron Olesko |
