BS: Pre Audition Nerves!

I've got an audition for a band tomorrow. The band is very picky , however. How can I avoid panicking and impress them, cos I really want to get in!

I wish I knew, it would make my auditions much easier!

May you have a felicitious result. (hoping that suffienctly avoids the phrasing which many people have superstitions about)

stop worrying about it for one... just go there and do the best you can do at that point in time and leave it up to the gods... there are many many things you cannot control... panic just makes it seem even worse...

Primal screams work wonders too!

LOL!!!!!

Avoid panic: be who you really are, which requires you to be comfortable with yourself. Confident, sure, but not arrogant.

Impress them: be who you really are, which requires you to be comfortable with yourself. Confident, sure, but not arrogant.

Somehow convey that you are a team player and not a prima-dona

My experience with bands is that they are a two way street. You need to be as comfortable with them as they with you. This generally fleshes out over time.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do well!

So far my only succesful ploy has been to surprised by the audition ( I was told I was having one ten minutes before I had it ! ). Next succesful, Really don't think about it!

NEVER agonise about it. That's when the fit really hits the shan.

Break a leg, have a good time !

Yeah, don't play to impress them. If anything, play like you and your instrument are the only witnesses for the solos, and play like it's a good session at a party when you're playing with anybody else. Most of all, if you can, have fun, because that will be apparent to the audience, and it will *really* impress them. Remember that recent thread about playing from the heart being better than technical proficiiency.

Deep breaths and a smile. You'll do fine.

There is only one thing that has ever helped me; not caring whether I get the part or not. If I walk in feeling as if it didn't matter one way or the other, I am more relaxed. The rub is getting yourself to feel that way.

:::smirk:::

Sorry. I know that is fairly useless. It's like the explanation on how to fly in the "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" books.

Best reaction I ever heard to an audition was from a mate of mine. I asked 'how did the audition go?' to which he replied: 'I passed... but they failed!'. Hope it goes well. - Ian B

You'll be fine. Breathe deeply and slowly for a few minutes beforehand, and enjoy it.

I didn't go in the end. My voice packed in just as I was getting ready so I couldn't sing. Typical, eh?!

I'm gonna go for the next one that comes along though, but I am well and truly gutted about this one. I was meant to be there now.

I remember when I was trying out for a local TV show and I came in to see folks that I thought were much better than me pacing the floor and doing all sorts of funky things that told me they were really uptight. One after one, they came out from their audition looking like they had been through a meat grinder. I thought, what's going on in there? One fellow even fainted. Came my time and I went in. They did all the set-up stuff and then said, show us what you have. I just strummed my dulcimer like there was no tomorrow and tapped my feet and SMILED to the camera and had a lot of fun. I got the little music bit in the show because the producer said that I 'looked' like I was having fun! Which I was. Sooo, HAVE FUN!
