Ella's a fleadh winner!

Now, Ella is too modest to start a thread herself, but it should be made known that she recently came second in the All Britain Fleadh due to her exceptional bodhran skills. She now qualifies for the All Ireland in Listowel. The girl is good!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

(okay, you owe me that 20 quid now...!*bg*)

Congratulations, Ella, that's fantastic! I already knew what a brilliant singer you were but didn't know about the bodhran too. Wonderful news! Margaret

Lol Fib..

Thanks all...

ok, knock the £20 spuds off the ferry price, (joking) I'll buy u a pint tho...

The All Ireland is during the last bank holiday weekend in August 29th ish over that weekend...

Hopefully Fibulas still coming along with me and my car load and the rest of the gang... Should be a good laugh over to Listowl, Kerry. There's aload of us going over, so can't wait.

Loads of Guinness, loads of sessions, and mad staminer test weekend.. Can't wait, my competition is on the Saturday, during the afternoon... so by then I should be human again to be awake enough (sober enough???) to have a crack at the all Ireland...

Cheers

Ella

Wicked!

Does Ella have any online music?

Wish I was going to be on that boat ride...

Best wishes from Canada. A _really_ good bodhran player is hard to find...

Thanks all...

No, George, I don't have any online music. Me and the boys in the band I'm in keep on about sometime or other getting down and doing some recording, but we have not got round to it yet...

We had the offer of some recording, but it never came to fruition...

Soon though hopefully...

Congratulations, Ella. We're cheering for you in the upcoming competition! It would be great to hear you online. If you can hook up a small computer microphone (they don't cost much) it is very easy to record something right into your computer as an mp3. Lots of people here can help talk you through the process.

Hi Alice...

Well I used to have a go on Paltalk a few months ago, but my puter has gone hay wire... and the mic is broke, I am still yet to fix myself up with an external one...

Sigh

Ella

The MP3 thing sounds interesting though!

Fib, thanks for the update and congratulations to Ella.

The Shepherdstown, West Virginia crowd has a few placers too, for the competition in Listowel. Coming in first in the New York Fleadh qualifiying rounds for Tenor Banjo is Emily Martin, with her dad Carl coming in third in Mandolin. And Arjuna Balaranjun (Mom is Irish, Dad is Sri Lankan) came in first in Flute and Tin Whistle.

This should be a lot of fun for everyone, and I wish every one their best playing of the year, even if they don't place in Ireland.

Now if I can just raise Sabine when she returns from the "All-Irish Descendant Pub Crawl", to cull the latest info on the places to play before and after the Fleadh. She should be back in the States any day now, and promised a full report (what she can remember, anyhow...).

And Fib and Ella, I hope to meet you both in Listowel. Good Luck!

Sounds great Claymore! It's a bit mad at the fleadhs, so, won't go arranging anything, I tried that before - and never get round to meeting up with people.! But hopefully we'll bump into people!

I agree its hard to prearrange a meeting. We're 14 strong with a hammered dulcimer, concertina, autoharps, flutes, whistles, mandos and long and short necked banjos, a superb fiddler, and four cloggers, so we should be easy to spot. I occasionally use a large shaman drum which I play like a bodhran, but use a hard felt typanni drumstick instead of a tipper. It gives a softer but far deeper kettle drum sound, so you should be able to pick us out on sight (or sound).

bloomin heck Claymore, your're going to fill some of Listowels smaller pubs in one swoop!

Will keep an ear out for you...

You'll notice me, I'll have had no sleep, I've an ash bodhran. Will probably be looking like the wreck of the hesperis.

Or the Heck of the Wesperis...

And yes we're a saucy lot, but the teenagers are well behaved, and know enough to drag Unca Donald out of the pub face up, to avoid ruining my good looks... I'll be the one in the ditch with my clothes still on...(damn!).

Claymore, we'll keep an eye out! I've got me Mudcat T-Shirt now. I shall wear it all weekend, which might not be too pleasant when you DO find us! I've just managed to talk my parents into coming down to Listowel as well, and some of my extended family should be there too. They are all fleadh stalwarts and will probably give me a run for my money.

(Dull thump and intermittent whine, as the reptilian portion of the brain housing group spools up).

Duh, Mudcat T-shirt? At the risk of seeming massively ignorant, how do I get one? A phone number, the price, and a good time to call will do.

It would seem an excellent way to make contact, and if I can get one in time, I shall wear mine on the top half of my body... (don't ask...)

(I am aware of the calendar, as I froze my ass off in an old theatre, taking the picture of one of the particpants and her ---------).

Right... Don, I don't have a t-shirt either...

so, just follow the wiff of Fibs t-shirt.

Funnily enough, as well as Fibs mum and dad... My mum and dad are now coming along too... along with about 12 other people! oooo can't wait. Though my mum and dad are fleadh virgins... lol - I don't think they quite realise what is going to go on!

I'm just back from Ireland, went away for a weeks festival... sigh... don't want to be here... want to be there!

See you soon

Ella (aka Suze)
