17 Jul 01 - 08:34 AM (#508466) Subject: RE: BS: Who's at Folk Works From: GeorgeH Folkworks (one word) is the Folk Music development agency for the North East of England, and a very fine bunch of people they are, too. (It's headed by Alastair Anderson and Roz Rigby.) However this thread refers to their Youth Summer School, which is one of their major activities. Aside from its excellent "musical" work, I believe it was the first Folk agency in the UK to obtain Arts Council funding, and it has done a tremendous job of getting the Arts "establishment" to see Folk music as being as valid as any other musical genre.
