PORT WILLIAM FOLK FESTIVAL

This is a great wee festival. Port William is right down in the south west of Scotland. Obviously great for Scots and north English but it is only 25 minutes from the Belfast Stranraer boat.

I played the festival last year with my band and had a really great time. It is small but then that makes the sessions all that much better!!

The festival will be taking place on the 28th - 30th September. Artists include...

Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh + Dermot Byrne (Altan) Paddy Glackin + Michael O'Domhnaill (The Bothy Band) Ceolbeg Dave Francis + Mari Campbell

Tickets for both Friday and Saturday night concerts are under £10. Camping is available (with shower block) for £2, and is free for weekend ticket holders.

Contact is George or Jenny Butterworth - email:

It's a realy nice place as well - Spent a happy week there with family some years back. Not at all touristy but close to lots of attractions as well - my favourite was Whithorn where they had an open arcaelogical dig at the time. One of my longest running stories comes from Port William as well. I went in the local chip shop 2 or three times over the week for fish and chips. The staff kept asking me if I wanted a 'fish supper' and on finding out it was simply fish and chips I said no. Only on my last day did I point out to them that fish was 50p and chips were 40p - total of 90p. A fish supper was £1.00! Needless to say the prices had changed before I left the shop...;-)

Don't think I can make it but good luck anyway.

Cheers

re the fish and chips & prices thereof- are you of the Scottish persuasion?

no chance of a festival now- all 3 pubs are closed, as is the restaurant- still a lovely spot but what happened?

there is a bar, very welcome, but more like a café with (keg) beer available- not sure about the chip shop?
