24 Jul 01 - 01:33 PM (#513539) Subject: RE: rave on From: catspaw49 I just liked Buddy....period. The real king of rock 'n roll............I play Buddy every couple of weeks just 'cause I need a "fix." Hard to tell where he might have gone. Spaw |

24 Jul 01 - 09:51 PM (#513953) Subject: RE: rave on From: GUEST,Marymac I was gonna say that I had just heard it was the anniversary of Holly's plane going down, but then I remembered--I heard that on a REbroadcast of a Prairie Home Companion show from the winter of 1999, which marked 40 years since that fateful night.... But then, that's getting into another song! |

25 Jul 01 - 10:16 AM (#514219) Subject: RE: rave on From: GeorgeH The Steeleye "Rave On" is also the title track of a compilation LP (mainly of those "usual suspects"). Not at all sure about Holly as the King of Rock and Roll, though; far too much of a smooth, approved by parents image, IMO. (Not a comment about the standard of his work, merely about where it should be positioned in the music of that time . . and so not really relevent to anything!) G. |
25 Jul 01 - 10:41 AM (#514237) Subject: RE: rave on From: pavane Jen, I think your Rave On words may be slightly inaccurate in places. I will look it up later, but I think it was WITH ME rather than TO ME. And it is not present at all, the first time. Or am I being too picky? |
25 Jul 01 - 10:49 AM (#514239) Subject: RE: rave on From: catspaw49 I dunno' George.........Parents didn't find him all that squeaky at the time and most DJ's originally thought he was black. Spaw |

25 Jul 01 - 12:00 PM (#514281) Subject: RE: rave on From: Peter K (Fionn) Spaw, the cover photo on my "Chirping" Crickets album reeks of the image George H recalls. I was only ten at the time, but I don't recall Buddy causing consternation like Jerry Lee Lewis did, among others. |
