10 May 02 - 08:11 PM (#708566) Subject: ADD: Noah's Ark From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Well, dash my buttons! (expression on the other song on the sheet) Nutty, I got a good, page-size copy by running it through Adobe. I think it is worth printing out. It's the only one I've seen where the bluebottles were admitted (they are dammed important, if you stop to think about it). It also rained for a couple of months or more, rather than the previously reported 40 days and 40 nights. "When Noah came marching in" (what is that other song about the "saints come marching in"?) NOAH'S ARK Oh, Mr Noah, he built once an Ark, Hurrah! Hurrah!! And like a skilful patriarch, Hurrah! Hurrah!! With pitch he made it tight and dark, And covered it over with hickory bark. Chorus: And they all felt jolly well gay, As Noah came marching in. Now, Noah began his boat to cram, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! Assisted by Japhet, Shem and Ham, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! The Animals came in two by two, From the Polar Bear, to the Kangaroo. There were Dogs and Cats, Owls and Bats, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! Bluebottles, Blackbeetles, Mice and Rats, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! The Hippopotamus and the Flea, The Elephant, and the Bumblebee. There was the Cow with the crumpled horn, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! And the Cock that crowed them up in the morn, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! The Sharks and Whales came up from beneath With a couple of donkeys from Hampstead Heath. Now every Animal had a wife, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! Poor Noah, they led him a terrible life, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! 'Till one day he said, with a crack of his whip If you don't stop your row, I'll scuttle the Ship. One day the bullocks were having a lark, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! When one of them butted a hole in the Ark, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! Noah took up a Dog's nose to stop up the hole And the nose ever since has been damp and cold. Now, you all must admit, you never did see, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! Such a sight as Noah's Menagerie, Hurrah!! Hurrah!! So Mr. Noah, he barred up the door, And it rained for a couple of months or more. |

15 Feb 03 - 12:39 PM (#891008) Subject: RE: LYR REQ? 'Old Man Noah' From: Leadfingers The dogs cold nose is an old joke, probably set to music by some smart arse writer with more skill than I have. Noahs Ark developed a leak and the dog stopped it with his nose until it got too big so Mrs Noah stopped it with her shoulder until it got too big, then Noah sat on the hole until they got some patching on the outside, which explains why a dog has a cold nose a woman will give you the cold shoulder and a man always stands with his back to the fire. |
