GUEST--

Can't find lyrics listed ANYwhere for these three songs. Did find info on what albums they're on, as follows:

Tinsley Ellis, "Pawnbroker":
Fanning the Flames (1989)
Alligator Records #AL 4778

Roy Rogers, "She's Cold As Ice":
Blues on the Range (1989); also on Blind Pig Artists: 20th Anniversary Collection.
Both from Blind Pig Music

John Mayall, "It Ain't Safe":
Blues for the Lost Days (1997)
Jive Records 41605

Sorry I couldn't help with the lyrics. I know I have Tinsley Ellis's song on a tape, but am presently unable to locate it. I'll try to find the darned thing, and post the lyrics later if no one beats me to it.

From: Stewie

Here's my shot at a transcription of the Ellis piece. He's not easy to decipher because the vocal is a fair way back in the mix. I have put in square brackets a phrase I am not sure of - that's what it sounds like, but it makes little sense to me. Perhaps someone can correct it. The rest should be pretty close.

THE PAWNBROKER
(Ellis & Simpson)

My landlord called to tell me
The rent was way past due
But the eagle up and died last month
Only one thing left to do

I'll see my pawnbroker
Gonna see him today
Take care of my guitar
'Cos I'll be back again some day

Collected unemployment
Swore I couldn't find a job
Bit too busy holding up this bar stool
When the bill collector came to call

I saw my pawnbroker
Got his ticket in my hand
Now a lot of folks don't know him
But the bluesman understands

What an unexpected pleasure
[When you first come] and let me hold the door
I'll go and get my guitar
And I'll play these blues some more

I'll see that pawnbroker
And I'll be smiling today
And when I get my guitar
This is what I'm gonna play
Yeah, hey, wooo

Stewie, bless you--I looked all over for my tape and couldn't find it--apparently it's one I loaned my stepson. May have to try to find this CD so I have a back-up copy. Anyway, thank you for posting the lyrics.

Subject: Lyr Add: SHE'S COLD AS ICE (Roy Rogers)
From: Jim Dixon

This is not the Roy Rogers who worked with, and was married to, Dale Evans.

SHE'S COLD AS ICE
As sung by Roy Rogers on "Blues on the Range" (1989)

She's so pretty, even I swear that woman's fine.
I want to love that girl, make her a friend of mine,
But chilly is not the word for her; she's cold as ice.

I walked out to her house and I knocked on her front door.
She looked out the window and pulled the shade down some more.
That's no way to treat a man who loves her so.

That woman's cold.

Someday, baby, you'll get what's comin' to you.
You'll get the same treatment you been dishin' out with a spoon.
Chilly won't be the word for it; somebody will be cold as ice to you.

She's so pretty, even I swear that woman's fine.
I want to love that girl, make her a friend of mine.
Chilly is not the word for her; she's cold as ice.
Well, chilly is not the word for her; she's cold as ice.
So cold.
She's so cold.
