Second, depends on how you got booked for the gig. Not flaming here, but you don't seem to even know the name of the organization you are doing a benefit for, so how much do you know about the potential audience? Do you know what the organization (and the disease) you are doing the benefit for are about? Finally, when the gig was booked, what sort of parameteres were you given? Do you know who previous performers who preceded you in years past and what their music is like, that sort of thing? |

We got booked for the gig yacking with him a few days ago at Walmart... There were no 'paramaters' given... I don't know that there have been "years past" at all... Quite frankly, I don't feel that I NEED to know everything there is to know about a group to play a benifit for them... the audience is gonna be mostly folks off the street, shelling out 5 bucks each for a good call near as I can tell... and well... the rest of the set list is folky-progressive-rocky-slightly-goofy fun... ;-) |

Well, if its a fundraiser with some society members (ie there will only be one or two in attendance, if any), I wouldn't worry, as they aren't your audience. But then, I can't imagine any suits OR society members being offended by Ramblin' Rover either, so I guess I'm just plain baffled as to why you asked in the first place? I too appreciate the diversity of opinion at Mudcat. I mean, this is a fun, silly, innocuous song that most music audiences would enjoy. What sort of person do you suppose would be offended by the lyrics?

I think he clarified the issue by telling us colitis sufferers and their loved ones would not be the audience for the gig. Once I had that piece of it, I thought performance of the song, based on what Clinton said the set was like, would fit fine and might even be a highlight of the show. If the gig were for the society itself, I myself wouldn't perform the song, and would have said so. Murray, The "C" word I referred to was "colitis" and yes, I understood from the beginning who the society was...
