I have the lyrics, now I'm looking for the chords for Take Her In Your Arms by Andy M. Stewart.

And, yes, I did the search of DT and threads (tho, I admit, possibly ineptly)

Can anyone help?

Is this the same song?

TAKE HER IN YOUR ARMS

Have you seen him on the corner? And his lip would reach the pavement.
He’s been hiding from his razor. Is he not an awful sight?
In love, he was the purist; now he’s frightening our tourists.
If he’d gone and asked his father, oh, I’m sure he’d set him right,

CHORUS: Sayin’, “Take her in your arms and tell her that you love her.
Take her in your arms and hold that woman tight.
Won’t you take her in your arms and tell her that you love her.
If you’re going to love a woman then be sure and do it right.”

Now he met her at a disco in a dive in San Francisco,
And it all might have been different had he seen her in daylight.
She was painted; she was scented; but she drove your man demented.
If he’d gone and asked his father, oh, I’m sure he’d set him right.

Here’s a pub with fun and laughter. The landlord’s buying bevy.
There’s a session in the corner and the craic is grand tonight.
But your man who’s lost his woman, he’s still at home lamenting.
If he’d gone and asked his father, oh, I’m sure he’d set him right.

Now, depression’s not a million laughs, but suicide’s too dang’rous.
Don’t go leapin’ out of buildin’s in the middle of the night.
It’s not the fall but landin’ that’ll alter social standin’,
So go first and ask your father and I’m sure he’ll set you right.

Here’s a health to all true lovers, their sisters and their brothers,
And their uncles and their grannies, for this thing is black and white:
If you’re keen to start romancin’ with its leppin’ and its dancin’
Then go first and ask your father and I’m sure he’ll set you right.

Verses:
Em - D
Em - D – D#

Chorus:
G – G - C –D
G – G - C –D
G – G - C –D
Em- Em- D -Em

UB Ed, I don't think your "Em - D – D#" is quite correct, is it ? Want to take another stab at it?

UB Ed...and others...we play a much quicker version of the song. I learned the chords from the Irish Accents up in D.C. and we play their quicker...rockier version. The Andy Stewart song is much much slower and much more traditional sounding.

It's the D# that's throwing me Ed, in the song as I know it there is no place for a D# chord at that point in the song. You guys must be singing an altered version. I don't have a recording of Andy M singing it, but does he play a D# at some point?

I guess that's it, Murray. Danny brought that down from DC, so God only knows where he got it. I'm certain Andy M. goes nowhere near a D#.

The D# really is only there for one beat as we transition from D back to Em.

I've got the chords in my Andy M. Stewart songbook. Sitting in the office I can't have a look at it now, I will do so when I'm at home. If I forget about it please remind me by e-mail: Ireland1@web.de!

Greetings, Marian

The sheet music I have is in C#minor--and I think that is where Andy sings it, but you need the right kind of voice to sing there.

...and a capo on the third fret, to play it in Am...

could the D# be part of a B or B7 chord?... making the progression Em D B7.... which sounds more likely....

Sorcha, singing it in C# minor isn't such a big deal, surely? I sing it in D minor (capo at fourth fret), and I don't think my voice is particularly unusual ! Singing it in E minor would be a bit of a stretch for me as you would need to hit a high G, which is beyond me I have to confess.

Here are the chords I play it with:

Verse
Am-Em|C-G
Am-Em|F-G-Am
Am-Em|C-G
Am-Em|F-G-C-G

C|F-G
C|F-G
C-Em|F-G
Am-Em|F-G-Am

That´s a whole lotta chords in a pretty fast tempo, but you´ll manage.
I play it with a capo on 3rd, that would be in C.

This is how I play it. From the "Dublin Lady" CD. This is very accurate as when I play along to the recording it is almost indistinguishable.

capo 5th fret

intro C F G (x3) Am Em F G Am

         Am               Em             C                   G
Have you seen him on the corner? And his lip would reach the pavement.
          Am             Em            F    G    Am
He's been hiding from his razor. Is he not an awful sight?
    Am             Em                C             G
In love, he was the purEst; now he's frightening our tourists.
       C                   G               F       G       Am
If he'd gone and asked his father, oh, I'm sure he'd set him right,

CHORUS:    C                G       Am/F               G
Sayin', "Take her in your arms and tell her that you love her.
C                G       Am/F          G
Take her in your arms and hold that woman tight.
          C                G       F                   G
Won't you take her in your arms and tell her that you love her.
          Am               Em            F      G      Am
If you're going to love a woman then be sure and do it right."

P.S. The notes may not line up accurately with the words but you can figure it out.
