If you want to print quality manuscript there are many MIDI programs that will do it from your MIDI file.

I use Noteworthy composer to view and arrange tablature. It is a great way to pick up new tunes and to learn them.I am interested in knowing how well Musictime works. My problem is I don't know how to save the files either to my abc2win or to musictime. I tried saving one from Joe's site to musictime. Got message, could not save. Wrong type file. It was saving as html. Then Bill;s site asked, "save as abc file." I said OK. It ended up on my desktop...... Oh, if I only know what I'm doing....... Dan: about Musictime. I've been using it for a couple of years on my old computer. It works great. Of course I haven't done anything fancy with it. Just print score with words and chords for our local dulcimer society. It is possible to put tab in if you do it in the lyrics space.... I've enrolled in a Windows 95 class at our local adult education school......maybe I'll learn something about saving files........... |

You can download MIDI files directly from the first page, from all those links that say "MIDI File." If you go over to the frames version of that site, the menu offers you HTML files to choose from. Click on the one you want, and a page with the lyrics will come up and the song will start to play. If you want to download the MIDI, click on the download link. You should probably set up a separate directory or "folder" for your MIDI files, so they don't get lost. Keep trying, and you'll figure it out. I don't know that I do it in the most effective way, but here goes. I download midi files in the my sound file, Sound Blaster 16, as a .midi. I think you could probably put it in any file, just specific. I get a message which gives me the choice of "SAVE AS". Then I open up MT, go to "new: and type in the midi file name I want changed to sheet music. Beware that some tunes can have several staves. Sometimes you will have to delete those you don't want. I usually eliminate all but the melody line. If I am downloading an ABC,I usually do that to ABCMUS (via notebook or write,etc.). ABCMUS can convert to midi and saved in ABCMUS or I have the "SAVE AS" option. Then follow the above. The MIDITEXT program will do about the same thing and I have usually found the conversions in the MIDITEXT file itself. Hope this helps. Write me if you have any problems. |

The best way to do that is to play with your computer until you mess things up royally a few times. Sooner or later, the frustration will force you to learn. It really isn't all that tough, but a lot of people give up before they figure that out. For that reason, we all have many friends with virtually-unused computers. Sharon, as I understand it, your MusicTime program should work quite well, just as well as Noteworthy Composer. Don't give up. Once you get the hang of it, you'll find you can run most computer programs without even looking at the manual. -Joe Offer- |

I have win 3.1 so I get more messages and directions that win 95 (or so I have been told). I'm really bad about reading instruction fully and didn't find out about midi changing until the last few months, after I had owned MT for about a year. I agree with Joe. I have learned more by experimenting and having to redo (and reread the manual). By the by, for tunes I can't find on the net, I sit at my computer with MT and my dulcimer and tune source beside and write and tab it. So combine the three. |
