I am looking for the lyrics of this beautifull song which was sung by Joan Baez on her LP's "Farewell Angelina" ( Vanguard record) By the way, if you know the chords she used to play this song, it will help me so much...... Thanks a lot !!!

FAREWELL, ANGELINA
(Bob Dylan)
As recorded by Joan Baez on "Farewell Angelina" (1965)

1. Farewell, Angelina. The bells of the crown
Are being stolen by bandits. I must follow the sound.
The triangle tingles and the trumpets play slow.
Farewell, Angelina. The sky is on fire and I must go.

2. There's no need for anger. There's no need for blame.
There's nothing to prove. Everything's still the same:
Just a table standing empty by the edge of the sea
Means farewell, Angelina. The sky is trembling and I must leave.

3. The jack and the queen have forsaked (sic) the courtyard.
Fifty-two gypsies now file past the guards
In the space were the deuce and the ace once ran wild.
Farewell, Angelina. The sky is falling. I'll see you in a while.

4. See the cross-eyed pirates sit perched in the sun,
Shooting tin cans with a sawed-off shotgun.
And the neighbors they clap and they cheer with each blast.
But farewell, Angelina. The sky's changing color and I must leave fast.

5. King Kong, little elves, on the rooftop they dance
Valentino-type tangos, while the make-up man's hands
Shut the eyes of the dead, not to embarrass anyone.
But farewell, Angelina. The sky is embarrassed and I must be gone.

6. The machine guns are roaring. The puppets heave rocks.
The fiends nail time bombs to the hands of the clocks.
Call me any name you like, I will never deny it.
But farewell, Angelina. The sky is erupting. I must go where it's quiet.

I'd like to know if Sebastien ever got these lyrics, or this was even the right song.

I like this song, but what does it mean? The images roll so fast one after another. What I make out is a young man with a head full of chemicals who can hang on only to the need to avoid committment to the girl he's singing to.

Surely there's more than this?

I think (as purely my own speculation) that this is a soung of disalutionment. He is clearly trying to excape from romantic entanglements, but more than that he is tearing down every romantic fantacy to be found one by one . Overtly he is lashing out at the woman who loves him, refusing to accept her, but I think he would not feel traped, and heance the need to excape if he were not at least infatuated with her. does that make any sence?

When Woody Guthrie used other peoples tunes ,that was ok.

But when Dylan does it, it's plagiarism

Be consistant,please.
