I'm looking for lyrics to a song I heard someone sing once or twice several years ago. I have no idea who performed it or what its actual title is, but I can give you bits and pieces of the lyrics:

"Well, there ain't many men who are lucky enough to have one as long as mine.
The thing is as old as I am, and still it is doin' fine...
I met a young lass who needed a hand, and used it for a week....
Though it wasn’t used for days on end, it never began to leak.
(Chorus) Oh, it is a beauty, all the fellas envy my technique,
Oh, it is a beauty, they hate me every time they take a peek.

Now Paddy O'Toole came calling one day, to tell me that he had heard
That mine was bigger than his was, and he didn't believe a word.
So I bet him a buck, and took him outside and laid it in the street.
The laddy could scarcely believe it. 'Twas over a hundred feet"

The punch line is
"And it's the finest length or garden hose they ever sold at Sears.”

If someone would be kind enough to cut and paste the lyrics if they have them, or perhaps guide me to a site where I can find said lyrics I would be quite grateful.

Thank you kindly for your time, I tried doing a forum search, and using several search engines, but without any clear-cut info, it's hard to get decent results.

Thanks Again, I really appreciate it.

Mark.

I believe the title of this song is "Ain't It a Beauty." Anyway, a "party record" with this title was made by Cliff Ferré with The Cafe Society Quintet and has been played several times on the Dr. Demento show. The only other recording I could find with this title is on an album called "Cahir O'Doherty Live." Sorry, I couldn't find the lyrics. Garden Hose from Sears is another thread in which this song (or a similar one) was discussed, and you'll find partial lyrics there.

I have almost all the lyrics. My Cousin Taught me the song years ago and I never forgot it except for one small verse. So here are the lyrics as I was taught them.....

Garden Hose Song:
Not Many a men are lucky enough to have one as long as mine.
The thing is as old as I am, But still it's doing fine.
Many a times, I was afraid it was going on the blink.
But after close inspection, it was always in the Pink!

I treat it very carefully, don't leave it lying about.
Before I put it away, I remember to shake it out.
If I should ever get to weak to get the think thing to work,
I've instructed Niki and Ramona, To squeeze it till it squirts!

Chorus:

Woah! ain't it a beauty! Everybody says it handles well.
Woah! Ain't t a beauty! If you don't believe me you can go to...

Chris Came calling one day to tell me he had heard,
That mine was bigger than his was, But he didn't believe a word.
I bet him a buck, Took him outside, and laid it in the street.
He couldn't believe when he saw it, it was over a hundred Feet!!!

Here is my missing verse...I know it ends like this...

...and I'be written my name in a snowbank, that was over a block away! (but the song sings fine without it)

Chorus:
Woah! ain't it a beauty!
Rolling across the street and over the grass!
Woah! Ain't it a beauty!
If you don't believe me stick it up your.....

Though I must admit it hasn't been used in four or five months or more.
It's hanging there just as ready as it's ever been before.
You can be assured that I'll be using it now for years,
cause it's the finest length....of Garden hose....they ever sold at Sears!!!

I hope this helps you guys out. if you have any questions...email me at Schmoopie3928@hotmail.com

Enjoy!!!

sorry about the typos. of course after I send my reply I noticed two of them. On the second line...It'd supposed to be "THING to work" I'm sure you could have figured it...but I wanted to clarify. The other Typos are obvious. Sorry again!!!

The lyrics, at least the version sung by Cahir O'Doherty, are in the thread entitled "Lyr. Req: Garden Hose Song". The lyrics were posted on 17 Nov 2001. It's a fun song, especially if you're watching an audience member who has never heard it before.

And Nickie came by and needed it bad, and used it for a week
Though it was abused for days on end, it never began to leak
I’ve used it in December on a cold and wintery day
And written my name in a snow bank that was over a block away
