Are any other catters going to Whittlebury Song and Ale at the end of the month?

Not this year Jude - it clashes with a weekend concertina workshop! Have fun! "Bright morning star's arising ...!" Alan

Thank you Alan you silver tongued devil you.

Whittlebury Song and Ale is a tiny festival for unaccompanied singers held on a working farm near Silverstone racetrack. It is not an invite only as some think but it is strictly limited in numbers because of the limited space, insurance and the way they have had to organise things to accomodate licensing laws. viz It is now run as an annual club that only has one event each year. Those who wish to go don't "buy a ticket", they "apply for membership". Thus everyone who goes this year is a member of this year's club. Application forms are all sent out at the same time (early Spring) to those who've been before or expressed an interest in going. "Membership" is on a first come first served basis and in practice it is so popular that if you don't reply almost by return of post, there may not be any places left! Everyone is assigned chores, there are no booked performers and facilities are very basic - but there are proper loos, and the singing in the barn is amazing!

Given that so many have to drive back on Sunday, the celebrating would probably be better done on the Saturday. Look forward to seeing you there. Jude

See you there Jude. My first year. I used to live just down the road from there and I never did go. Now it's hours away I'm going. Shows how mad I am?

See you there Jude, Vectis and you too Nutty, We might need our wellies for other than the rain, disinfectant foot washes seem to be the norm in farming areas everywhere.

This sounds wonderful, and it's not far from where I live. Should I assume there's no way I'll 'get in' this year? Who do I contact to get on the waiting list/mailing list for future years?

Thanks

Watch out for Jude's hugs, Keith. If you don't have cracked/bruised ribs beforehand you could afterwards ... !

Pardon me, but your cracked rib has rather more to do with alcoholic inattention to stray guy-ropes than my hugs, but since you say you don't mind the wind I'll have to pack the pickled onions

i went for the first time last year, and found it just amazing! At times I just couldn't sing because of the emotive atmosphere - such powerful singing. And it's easy to practice harmonies there, because no-one can hear you! It's easy to get know people as well, because you all muck in and do jobs. See you all there again.

Hi everybody.

Those of you who have met me at festivals will know why I have used this ID.

I've just re-registered myself with Mudcat and am checking to make sure it all works.

See you all at "Song and Ale" (no prizes for spotting me in the crowd - the ID gives you a clue as to what to look for)

It still sees me as Guest but that may be because I was using another computer and was logged in as someone else.

I've now logged in as me so lets see if this works.

Yes Noreen.

All it needed was a helpful Mudcatter to point me in the right direction.

Now all I have to do is wait for Judes birthday at Whittlebury (to get back on topic) and have a good sing and drink

Now

Yeah I knew that would happen.

I work two afternoons a week at an Old Peoples project and tend to grab one of the Mac I-Books when someone goes for a cup of tea. I forgot about the Cookie thing until after I had sent the posting.

Instructions from teacher:

"Write out 100 times 'I must remember to re-set my Cookie'"

Back to the topic - Packing my wellies and hot water bottle in the next few days. I could have used them last year.

I hope this works, this is my first Mudcat message. It was my first time at S&A last year too. I went with a friend, Dave. We missed most of Sat. night because we went to a wedding reception but made it back to the food "hall" in time for a song or two. We'll be there again so see you all in a week's time.

Julie -

I have spoken to Barbara Brown tonight ( Friday 21st ) if you give her a call on the number provided in the thread, as there are possible spaces, you should, if you want to get to Whittlebury 2001.

Barbara would have contacted you direct but has been unable to access the thread

Thanks for that Andy. I rang Barbara, and got all the details. As it's only a few days away now, I don't think I'll be able to make arrangements to allow me to stay the whole weekend, but it'd be nice to come along for even part of it.

Sorry for misdirecting you Julie - totally unintentional, and I'm glad I was wrong, it's just that normally by this time all the places have long since been taken. Hope one of the days you can make it is Saturday & you can help me celebrate. Going in comfort this year - have just got a caravan. I will probably still use the tent(s) for a lot of stuff as it takes longer to get places when you're restricted to 50mph but at this time of year it'll be nice to be not quite so dependant upon the weather. On downside is that since the towbar's on my car it means I have to drive. So Birthday celebrating is now definitely on the Saturday rather than the Sunday. So who fancy's a party, I have my infamous gazebo on standby! Jude

"She who must be obeyed" and I are quite likely to drop by the gazebo (never made it at Towersey).

Is it B.Y.O.B?

We'll bring a drop of something anyway!

If Vectis is who I think it is the "Wellie" is going to be short of residents this Friday

Yes please to the byob, and vectis is she of the coat of many bar towels. So now the question remains who like birthday cake (my version tipsy chocolate cake you can get drunk on the smell alone!).
See you all there

Glad you enjoyed it, me too, who cares about the weather when singing fills the air and warms the heart. My tent didn't leak, my feet stayed dry, and the late night drinking and singing as always was brilliant. Theresa P.S If anyone left a blue ladies brolly behind after the auction I have it and will return it next year unless contacted
