BS: New Story - 5 sentences each to build on

We had so much fun with Helen's 100 word only story thread, I thought we might try something else. Each of us has five sentences of reasonable length (no run-ons!*bg*) to write.

The next person adds to the same plot line with their own five sentences. It can go in any direction, but please try to follow the previous poster with some continuity. Okay? Here goes:

Once, long ago, in a forest of dark evergreens, there lived a woman.

She had a small cottage, filled with all manner of odd and beautiful things.

Most prized of all her possessions were the musical instruments which hung on the walls.

So cherished, they shone with lustrous patinas of age and loving use.

Alas, they were silent now, as the woman could not play.

When the holidays came around that year, she remembered all the past good times.

If only she could play again!

But no, she thought sadly...

Just then there was a knock at the door.

She went, curious who might have turned up NOW, and peered out through the small wavy-glass window in the door.

Peering through the glass the woman saw the face of her beautiful daughter, gone so long from the evergreen yet dangerous beauty of the Everglades.

She flung wide the door with tears in her eyes and music in her heart, but a stillness in her voice.

The two women trembled as they smiled and the mirror image of their faces was only different in age, not beauty or happiness.

Their faces changed to fear as the trembling they realized was not from within but below, and accompanied now by some strange and odd whooshing noise, it increased as they realized the ground was opening beneath their feet.

Within seconds, both women perished as the cabin, all of the instruments, and this story, were completely enveloped and swallowed by yet another monstrous Florida sinkhole.

Spaw - Next??

From far, far below sounded the rich, melodious, sonorous voice of a saxophone.

And then, if an onlooker had eyes to see, slim forms came rising from below, their serene faces bright with anticipation.

They had scarcely a moment's thought to spare for the chap who had sent them to their doom so precipitously.

If anything, they pitied the man, because they knew that if he had had a choice in life, he would never have chosen the choice he chose.

You see, they knew all about Spaw and his gaseous rumblings.

But these were women.

Stronger than any sinkhole.

As they plummetted down the Mother, with one hand, grabbed the root of a tree that was sticking through the dirt.

With the other hand she grabbed hold of her daugther.
They crawled upwards and out of the hole and went and kicked the living daylights (being polite here) out of Spaw.

Spaw, bruised, battered, but unrepentant, grinned.

"See what you are capable of in adversity?" he said.

"And yet you let the music in you die with your dreams"

Mother and daughter looked at each other in shame.

"Good heavens," they exclaimed " how wise he is, if a little on the whiffy side".

At that moment there came a knock on the door.

Spaw and the two women looked at each other, wondering who it could be.

Opening the door, Spaw was amazed to see the figure of a handsome Scotsman standing there.

The Scotsman went over to the wall, lifted off a beautiful vintage Martin 000, and began to play a selection of Celtic music that filled the Florida night air with magic.

Spaw fell to his knees, and realised that the kicking the women had given him had released him from this mortal coil, and that he had ended up in heaven, able finally to listen to Tony McManus.

Unfortunately for the denizens of heaven, the devil has all the best tunes.

"Make him stop now!" screamed Spaw, writhing in agony.

"I'd rather listen to Andean pan-pipe music than this sanitised pap", he added, somewhat resentfully.

"hey, it pays the bills" retorted Tony;

"you're just jealous 'cause I've got the vintage Martin 000 with the fancy purfling and silver inlaid fingerboard and all you've got is a crappy old Ramirez"

Then the sound of a huge exploding thunderbolt startled all present, and they looked up to see a tall figure with long hair standing amongst them.

Holding out his hand, which they noticed had some violent scars on the palms, he touched Spaw's on both his ears.

Speaking with a faintly Jewish accent, he said "I'm a bit out of practice at this, but, I know that when they fixed your teeth and your heart they couldn't do anything about yours ears, so hey, let's do it now".

Spaw lifted his head, listened afresh as Tony played a mesmerizing set of jigs and reels, and cried out ecstatically "NOW I GET IT, NOW I CAN FINALLY HEAR !"

Jesus wept.

"Huh?" said the two women.
"I CAN DIGIT", sang Spaw, reeling in the years and capering to "Little Brown Jig".
"But," inquired Tony, purfling, "Why is there a door here at all if everything went down the sinkhole?"
"Everything's here," came Spaw's rejoinder, "This is the kitchen sinkhole."
And the two women, mute again after their single line of dialogue, shook their heads in sorrow.

Ya' know, I thought I had a really funny line there in the bit about the "story going down the sinkhole," but there have now been at least half a dozen that are not only funnier, but literally had me LMAO!!!....not the least of which is EJ's "single line of dailogue" reference!

Great stuff!!!
