Does anyone know the version of the springhill mine explosion. It starts off as: (It was Thursday the 1st of November 1956 was the year, from Springhill Nova Scotia the sad news we did hear. Well Over a hundred miners were trapped.........)

Can anyone tell me where to find the lyrics and the artist of this song?

Thanks Cookie

Cookie, the author is Peggy Seeger. She probably sang it first. The lyrics are here in the Mudcat/Digital Tradition.

Have you looked in the database and forum search? It's actually called SpringHILL not Springfield

I always try the Database first but I didn't see it. I guess because I had it spelled wrong. Thank you for your help. I try to help people find lyrics and it is very hard some times. So appreciate all the help the mudcatters give me.

Thanks again, Cookie

You're welcome, Cookie, on behalf of us all. It's good to have you around here. Mudcat searching takes time to learn, so don't worry about it, but it helps to tell us where you have looked so we can avoid going over already-worked ground.

Hey, guys. I'm looking for the lyrics and chords (mainly chords) to the Springhill Mine Disaster. Anyone know of a site that has them? Thanks!

Hi, Michael - this thread (click) has chords, and there are alternate chords in the Digital Tradition (click).

A number of songs have been written about the mining disasters of Springhill Nova Scotia, but there is one of which I would like to get the lyrics to. And it goes like this: Twenty third of October I'll remember that day. When we entered the mines in our usual way. Clark had his birthday.................
The rest is blank. Help would be appreciated and maybe from a fellow Hallogian.
Beer.

It is in the Forum, but hasn't made it into the DT yet.

That song was entered into the Forum in 1998, forty years after the disaster.
